David’s Court Victory Restoring Funding for Music Therapy“Shaun Hussain, M.D., a pediatric neurologist treating claimant...music therapy “has become a critical means to alleviate the otherwise devastating cognitive and psychosocial impact of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome [claimant’s specific epilepsy syndrome].”

Although he exhibits severe neurocognitive disability, [claimant] seems to demonstrate improved social, emotional and even cognitive functioning during therapy sessions. This has not been accomplished in any other academic setting nor has it been achieved previously with the aid of other behavioral and pharmacological therapies.

Pornchai Tirakitsoontorn, M. D., a pediatric pulmonologist treating claimant wrote....music therapy ‘has been helping [him] . . . to increase his breath control, increase his oxygenation, decrease his seizure recovery time, and to help stabilize and lower his heart rate.’”
