QUESTION

• How will you win the lost to membership?

Video: Jay Walk

Good Reminder: Why We Are Planting.

Discipleship Journey

• Step 1: Membership

• Membership is usually the first step in discipleship journey.

• People don’t make major life changes until they feel part of a supportive family.

Formed For Family

• Ephesians 1:5 - “This unchanging plan, His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family.”

• "You are members of God's very own family...and you belong in God's household with every other Christian."     Ephesians 2:19(LB)

First Problem

Airports & Churches

If you go to an airport and there are no planes

taking off, there is a problem.

If you go to a church and there are no disciples

being made, there is a problem!

Unbalanced Priority

• You have to make evangelism a high priority if you want a balanced disciple making ministry.

• It all starts on the front end.

Interaction

Why is evangelism first thing neglected after launch?

Natural Backburner

• Prenatal Stage: – Prospecting & networking– Sneak previews – Invest & Invite

• Public launch:– Weekly worship routine– Weekly ministry commitments– Weekly sermon preparation– Planter: Not primary gift

Antidote: Intentionality

• Use Sneak Preview dynamics in reverse

• First Sundays – Evangelism emphasis– Total church emphasis– Coordinate servant evangelism– Shut down weekly programming

Use Multiple Hooks

• Christians– Different styles

• Non-Christians– Different hooks

Use Calendar

• What are some natural evangelism events in your church calendar?

• What are some natural evangelism events in your community?

Use Your Team

• Connect your lost friend with person in church with similar background.

Invest & Invite

• Dynamic Partnership

• We partner with our regular attenders to reach the unchurched.

Something In Hand

Printed tools• Sneak preview invitations• Baptisms invitations• Small group invitations• Outreach invitations• First Sunday invitations• E-Cards

First Sundays

• Make evangelism a special emphasis once a month.

• Most plants don’t have resources to do every Sunday.

Second Problem

Membership Matters

• N.T. Pictures– Body– Family– Living Temple– Army– “One Anothers”

• Imply membership

Discipleship Issue

• People are not natural joiners

• Nation of believers but not belongers.– George Gallup

Major Research

• Top Ten Growth Factor– These church plants also

require new members to sign a church covenant.

• Early Membership Class– They know that it’s imperative

for new members to take their commitment to the church seriously as soon as they’ve committed their lives to Christ.
