DRE 098 Discipline Chair
What is DRE? DRE is North Carolina’s Developmental
English and Reading program. Students who are not “college ready” take
DRE courses at the Community College.
DRE CoursesDRE 096, 097, 098 are 3 credit hours and 8
weeks each
Classes include 5 hours of lecture and 2 hours of lab per week.

Course Overview:
NC Grading Requirements Grading Mastery
DRE courses are Pass/Retake.
Students earn a P or R at the end of the course.
Mastery Grading Students must
demonstrate course appropriate reading and writing mastery in their DRE course.
Mastery is 80%
CPCC DRE Mastery Requirements: All classes have the same requirements: 1.Overall Course Average of 80% or above 2.Final Reading Exam grade of 80% or above 3.Final Writing Assignment grade of 80% or above
Revisions and Retakes Students have one chance to revise all
formal writing assignments to enhance learning and improve their grade.
Students have one chance to take an alternate version of the reading tests (including the final exam) if they earn below an 80% on the initial test.
