Reading- 6th Grade Common Core
This year students will be developing skills to attack traditional literature as well as varied informational texts.The amount of rigor and text complexity will be far greater this year. The students will be examining the following:
Identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the structures and elements of literature.
Recognize and apply knowledge of the historical and cultural aspects of American, British, and world literature.
Identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the purpose, structures, clarity, and relevancy of functional text.
Acquire and use new vocabulary in relevant contexts. Employ strategies to comprehend text. Identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the structures and
elements of literature. Identify and explain the author’s use of figurative language
and how it affects the text. Explain basic elements of argument in text and their
relationship to the author’s purpose and use of persuasive strategies.
Accelerated Reader
Each child will test to determine their AR level. Students can take AR tests on the computer when
they complete a book. They will fill out a fiction or nonfiction book ring
sheet for each book they finish. Each test is worth a specific number of points. Every quarter, each student will have a point goal
