Pinocchio was a very lucky puppet, because he was brought to life by a turquoise fairy. Although he could walk and talk, he was still made completely of wood.

“To become a real boy, you must not tell a lie for one full week,” the fairy stated. “It doesn’t matter what anyone tells you about lies. You must not believe them. If you do, something terrible will happen.”

Since Pinocchio didn’t know what a lie was, the first few days went by quite well. His human dad, Geppetto, enrolled him in school, and he soon made several new friends. When he got home after school, Pinocchio normally helped his dad around the workshop. He loved watching his dad work, it made the old man happy.

As he continued to go to school, he quickly realized that all the other kids would say one thing, but then do something completely different. One day, Pinocchio decided to confront a boy
