Notes from Jo Ellen… Church Family Life… This year on July 6th and 7th we partnered with Faith Lutheran and friends for
an Operation Mattress Mission Expedition! We had over 30 folks of all ages, and
one super cute doggie, come to empty two of the Concordia dorms of their
mattresses (great donation CU) and load them into a UHaul to be taken to the
Pine Ridge Reservation to our friends at Re-Member. We hauled 88 mattresses
to them and already 18 have been given to homes needing beds! God provided
a great mattress brigade to load all of this up in just 20 minutes flat… Hearty
thank yous are extended to all of our church family and friends who made this
happen on such short notice and to those who contributed towards the costs for
fuel.
We are truly a church family on a mission…
to serve… to love others…
to send forth!

From the Foundation: That row of day lilies was in the yard when we bought the house. Every summer we enjoy the burst of blooms in late June.
We are adding new lilies to bloom in a different color, in a different spot. We hope that down the road, some other family will appreciate the perennial plantings like we have. The Seward United Methodist Church Foundation stewards endowed gifts made long ago. Like the daylilies, the gifts generate spendable income to support areas such as church music, educational materials or mission projects. It is the Foundation’s job to nurture those gifts, and responsibly manage the spendable income they generate. We are sincerely appreciative of the generosity and investment those church members made to benefit the church for years to come. We also appreciate the current members who consider including the SUMC Foundation in their estate plans to assure a blossoming future as we do God’s work.
With conference building moves, districts get new offices The closing of the conference office Lincoln means a new home for the Blue River district office.
The Blue River District office will relocate to ConnectioN Point, at 1333 N. 33rd St. in Lincoln, the former location of Faith UMC.
The move should take place once construction on the new offices is completed, said the Rev. Bill Ritter, Blue River District superintendent.
The phone number will remain 402-323-8849, but will ring in Topeka until the move is complete. Ask for Bill Ritter or administrative assistant Pam Savery.

SUMC...On the Move August Newsletter
(A component of the Faith Community Nursing Program)
August is the month when the carefree days of summer slowly fill with more scheduled days and activities. Most notably, August begins another school year. School calendars will govern many family schedules, just as school bells will govern students’ days. Our church calendar also becomes more regulated with scheduled activities following the liturgical year. The kick-off for the church year is Rally Sunday on August 19. Consider an afternoon at the Seward pool with your SUMC family and friends on Sunday, August 19 from 2-4. Refreshing and fun! What a combination! August celebrates the first full year of “SUMC … On the Move.” Together, we have walked hundreds of miles and logged thousands of minutes of physical activity. We have been inspired by your stories to continue activities as well as to try something new. Improved mental, physical, and spiritual fitness has been the result. As we look toward our second year, what activities would you like to see promoted? What activities might you consider leading? Dates to keep in mind: Sunday, 8/5 or 8/12 Leave your July activity log in the shoebox. Monday, 8/13 Drawing for the winning July “movers.” Sunday, 8/19 Seward Pool open for all-ages, 2-4 pm Every day, 8/1 – 8/31 Savor/Consume the bounty of summer gardens If you haven’t enrolled in SUMC… On the Move: Please know that you can register at any time. The registration forms and activity logs are on the information table in the hallway. Registrations can be left in the shoebox! J All ages are welcome. Remember to take a red water bottle from the shelf.
July Winners: Bob Bierbower, Ander Axthelm, JoEllen Axthelm

“The Finance Committee has decided sending quarterly statements at the end of March does not give much information to the congregation on their specific giving. Therefore, the Committee will be sending statements at the mid-year point for giving through June 30, and then again at the end of the year to the congregation. Individual pledges will be included on giving statements for a comparison of how close your giving is to your pledge.

“Dear members of SUMC, Thank you for your kindness throughout the past four and a half months. I appreciate your calls, cards, visits, prayers, meals, and messages of concern and encouragement.
