NHCASA Welcomes New Volunteers
The Fall New Volunteer Training prepared seven new
volunteers to take the oath to serve abused and neglected
children in the Northern Hills. Judge Michelle Comer swore in
the new volunteers following the training. Volunteers were
trained by CASA staff and guest speakers. The next training
will be held in April.

NHCASA Loses a Great Friend
NHCASA board member Chuck Turbiville
passed away October 20, 2018. Chuck
served on the NHCASA board from 2010
until his death. Though he was a very
busy man, serving as mayor for the City
of Deadwood and as state representative
for Lawrence County, he still made time to
attend board meetings and CASA events.
Chuck’s favorite activity was helping out
at the Days of ‘76 Rodeo, where NHCASA
worked the VIP bar for tips. Chuck’s
generous nature (and drink servings!)
helped NHCASA earn hundreds in tips
each year.
NHCASA board and staff will miss Chuck’s
stories, laugh and generous nature.

Volunteer Spotlight Page
For an abused or neglected child, a CASA volunteer is
someone who listens. Someone who reaches out to
teachers, social workers, parents, counselors,
caregivers, and anyone else who can meet the child’s
needs. Someone whose sole mission is to help clear a
path out of the complex, over-burdened child welfare
system and into a safe, permanent home.
35 CASAs has served 86 children from 54 families through advocacy efforts so far this year.
National CASA Conference June 1-4
Volunteers have the opportunity to apply to attend the annual conference to be
held in Atlanta, GA with all expenses paid. Applications must be completed online
by February 1. The National CASA Conference features keynote speakers and
breakout sessions with training in regard to child protection, CASA advocacy work,
and best practices. APPLY TODAY!
