On the 31st of July, 1954 a Decree of the Council of Ministers was issued about establishing a proving ground on New Land.On October 30th, 1961 on New Land the most powerful throughout history nuclear explosion was conducted. The explosion yield was about 50Mt (megatons), and it was named as «Mother of Kuzma».
