FROM THE PASTOR:Last week was a busy time in our parish. On Tuesday afternoon, the parish staff had its monthly meeting. There was a lot of coordination of various events and schedules. On Tuesday evening, the school advisory board met to review matters as the school year draws near to its end. Everyone was very pleased at the increase in enrollment and the positive financial report. We continue to receive enquiries about enrolling in St. Mary School for the 2022-2023 school year. As always, our school staff will be delighted to talk to you about enrolling your children in our fine parish school.
On Wednesday evening, we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at a special evening Mass. The beautiful celebration owed much to the commitment of parents, sponsors, catechists, teachers, and those family members who offered their own witness to the beauty of the Catholic faith.
Every year, as part of the Missionary Cooperation Plan, every parish in our Diocese gets to host a group from the missions. The purpose of this program is twofold; first, a reminder that we are a universal body of Christ, the Church. Second, it offers us an opportunity to support the spread of the Gospel and meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in the mission countries. This year, we'll be invited to support the mission and ministry of the Diocese of Soroti, Uganda, through a second collection next weekend.
I will be in Illinois from Tuesday to Friday this week, taking part in the annual meeting of the Mariological Society of America. I will be presenting a paper on one of the Marian Masses prescribed for Advent, titled, "Mary, Chosen Daughter of Zion." Since May is Mary's month, I would like to offer a more popular version of the same presentation to whoever is interested on Wednesday, May 25, at 7:00 p.m. (after the evening Mass), in Moira Hall. The talk will explore what the New Testament says about Mary and why, with special attention to the Old Testament theology that helps us understand statements about Mary in the New Testament.
Sincerely Yours, in Christ,Fr. Thomas Buffer
PRAYER REQUEST LINE: For a prayer request for the Prayer Line, please call Dominga at the Parish Office at 740-382-2118 or email [email protected].
BISHOP'S ANNUAL APPEAL“Living the Joy of the Gospel,” the theme of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, inspires us, as people of faith, to share joyfully the Good News of Christ to those who most need to feel His love. Works of kindness and assistance, sometimes in the smallest way, can bring about a profound
change in a person’s life. Through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, we have an opportunity to bring about a positive change in the lives of many of God’s people. Through your generosity, you are supporting the various ministries and programs that are vital in spreading His love.We ask participation at all levels and invite everyone to consider giving the best gift they are able to make. You may use the BAA envelopes or give online at https://www.columbuscatholicgiving.org/make-a-gift-now. For those unable or not ready to give, we invite you to support the Appeal through your prayers.Thank you for your generosity.
FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 15, 2022

REMINDER FOR VISITATION OF THE SICK
Please remember that due to privacy laws, hospitals no longer notify us when one of our parishioners has been admitted. Please notify the Parish Office if you or a loved one is ill or in the hospital by calling 740-382-2118. If you need the immediate services of a Catholic priest, please call the number given in the recorded message when you call the office. Thank you.
For the past two years, the Diocese of Columbus has been working on a strategic planning initiative called Real Presence, Real Future in an attempt to anticipate and meet the future needs of the diocese in view of changing demographics, declining church attendance, and an ongoing shortage of priests. At this stage, a set of proposals called draft models have been publicized. These are a first attempt at defining how parishes might be cared for by the clergy; which parishes are clustered together, how many priests are at each parish, etc. You are invited and strongly encouraged to provide feedback on the draft model for our parish. To do so, please go to https://realpresencerealfuture.org/draft-models-spring-2022/ and view the video containing the draft models for planning area 3 – North. You may provide your reflections and reactions in the Feedback Form by clicking the link next to the video. The deadline for feedback is June 30. Your input is critical in order for the planning committee to assess the viability of the draft model and, if necessary, to determine a more reasonable alternative.

NEXT WEEKEND… MISSION APPEAL/SECOND COLLECTIONEvery year, as part of the Mission Cooperation Plan, every parish in our Diocese gets to host a group from the missions. The purpose of this program is twofold; first, a reminder that we are a universal body of Christ, the Church. Secondly, is to provide an opportunity for us to support the spread of the Gospel and to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in the mission countries. This year, we shall have the opportunity to support the mission and ministry of the Diocese of Soroti, Uganda next weekend through a special, or second, collection. The Diocese of Soroti, located in Eastern Uganda, was erected by Pope St. John Paul II on the 29th of November, 1980. It geographically covers the ten civil districts of the Teso Sub-region and a land area of 33,130 sq. km. (20,586 sq. miles). The total population of the area covered is 3.5 million people and the Catholic population is 1.7 million people, representing about 45%.Soon after its creation, the Northern and Eastern regions of Uganda (including the entire area covered by the Diocese of Soroti) were plunged into a civil war, which lasted almost two decades and left the population devastated, economically and socially. The people who survived this turmoil were sustained by their faith which, by the grace of God, was strengthened and grew in the midst of the turmoil. And now, just like the rest of the world, they suffered and are recovering from the effects of Covid-19. For more information, you can visit www.soroticatholicdiocese.org.
