Research Matters Research Matters contains articles which focus mainly on the aim of the research and its potential impacts, rather than on the acquisition of funding or new staff recruits. The content of Research Matters focuses on the stories behind the research. It is circulated in an email format to all staff which enables readers to read the content online or download partial (single article) pdf or complete pdfs. There are also printed copies available which are distributed to some staff members and there are copies available in the Research Office. Please see link below to the current issue of Research Matters, Issue 5, which was produced in Summer 2013: http://www.nuigalway.ie/media/staffsub-sites/researchoffice/files/Research-Matters-Issue-5.pdf
IRIS Enhancements Over the last few months we have been working to add a number of enhancements to IRIS (Institutional Research Information System) which we have outlined below:
• You can now receive email alerts from IRIS to alert you of any new publications which IRIS
has pulled from Web of Science and Pubmed into your IRIS profile (based on your author name and NUI Galway address name variants). IRIS will also search for publications you have co-authored with another NUI Galway member; this means that you can claim your publication instead of manually entering it. To turn on your email alerts – Login to IRIS (http://www.nuigalway.ie/research-office/onlinesystems/iris/ and select ‘Preferences’ from the horizontal menu and click ‘Yes’ on the tick box to ‘Receive Email Alerts’.
• Research Postgraduate E-Prospectus 'Find A Supervisor' web feed. IRIS now has a live feed on the Courses section (http://www.nuigalway.ie/courses/research-postgraduate-programmes/choosing-a-research-programme/find-a-supervisor.html) of the external

website which can be viewed externally to help potential students identify supervisors and their key research interests. To be included in this web feed please complete the relevant information: http://www.nuigalway.ie/media/staffsub-sites/researchoffice/files/Find-A-Supervisor.pdf
• Community Engagement - IRIS has been upgraded to include a new Community Engagement section under the Professional tab. This section holds information on Advocacy, Board Membership (Boards of Community Based Org, NGO), Consultancy (Pro-bono), Outreach, Policy Development, Research (e.g. Community based research) and Teaching (e.g. Service learning / community based learning).
• IRIS now has a live feed on the Research website (http://www.nuigalway.ie/our-research/people/) and can be viewed externally which highlights your expertise, publication s etc. This feed also gives you your own personal web address for your published profile which can be included on your own/discipline/school webpage’s eliminating the need to update a separate webpage. The College of Business, Public Policy & Law (http://www.nuigalway.ie/cbppl/) now use the IRIS feed for all their staff profiles.
