Prepare to Create a Meaningful Presence

• Think about your twitter goals

• Plan your Twitter persona

• Choose a twitter name / photo

• Develop your back story – first 4 or 5 tweets

• Research who you will follow based on goals – choose at least 20

Day 1 on Twitter

• Signup for a Twitter account via computer

• Tweet your back story in 3 to 4 posts

• Follow a few of your friends that you know will follow you back immediately

• Pull up your target list of influencers and begin to follow people

• Follow about a dozen people on day one

Day 2 on Twitter

• Scan posts of people you are following at least 2x day. Get a feel for what tweets you find interesting

• Can you insert yourself into conversation or offer further info? If yes, do

• Post at least one new tweet per day

• Check Twitter trends, get familiar with posts

• Look at your follower to following numbers? If they delta is 10 or less, follow more people

• Continue to scan posts of people you are following at least 2x per day

• Insert yourself into conversation or offer further info?

• Post at least one new tweet a day

• Choose a mobile Twitter app for your phone

• Load Tweetdeck onto your computer – Create lists based on your objectives

– Setup columns to follow these lists

• Continue to follow new people – based on your predefined objectives

Tweet Lingo & Info• Tweets are public

• Tweet length is a maximum of 140 characters. 130 if you want to allow for easy retweets

• @ use it to ID a tweeter in your post. Shows up as a mention in their twitter account. Ex.: See you Tuesday @tamicasey

• # = hashtag, easy way to search for info on twitter. Example #SMCSFSV

• RT = retweet. Example RT@tamicasey So excited to see my Intel friends today>>Me too

Tweet Lingo & Info• DM is a direct message. It is seen only by recipient, but

you must be following a person for it to work. Example: D@tamicasey my number is 650-340-1984

• Make sure to use URL shortener when tweeting links. Bit.ly a good one. Tweetdeck shortens URLs automatically.

• Twitter location an interesting feature, use it wisely.

Twitter Lists• Twitter allows you to curate and follow lists.

• Start following a few popular lists. Listorious is a great place to browse Twitter lists

• Build your own lists. There is a “New List” option on your Twitter homepage.

• Create descriptive, unique and flattering list names. Make sure to mark your list as public.

• Share your lists with your network and post them on Listorious.
