Cutting Edge

Using white card I made 4cm borders at the top and bottom and cut lines between the bottom edge of the top border and the top edge of the bottom border. I rolled the card and stuck the border ends and experimented to find different shapes by compressing it.

This reminds me of the stages of a laptop opening and closing.

I cut a series of ‘L’ lines down the centre of the page and then rolled the page to create a spiky effect.

I cut a series of ‘v’ lines in the centre of a narrow card and rolled it several times without sticking the ends to create a rollercoaster shape.

Tidal wave

I cut thin strips down to a solid border and rolled the strips around a pencil with different degrees of tightness to create the feeling of a rolling wave.

Dessert wave

Top: I used a knife to press a shape onto the card and then used the impression to bend the card.

Bottom: I took some wire and pressed it into the card to make indentations.

Rippling sands

I used a thin square wooden stick to press indentations into the card.

Abstraction

I made two curved incisions into some card and let my imagination do the rest.

Starting from outside I used a scaple to make continuous ever decreasing rectangles, and then experimented pulling the shapes out to different degrees.

Paper weaving

I cut some parallel lines into a piece of card creating slits. I cut another piece of card into strips and then weaved those into the slits on the first card.
