SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples,
Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that,
while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus’ post-Resurrection promise, re-
counted in today’s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ followers. Saint
Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can be used to
spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church’s greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the
responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the
face of the earth!” (Psalm 104:30).
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13). Gospel — Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23).
ADORATION 6:00pm

this pandemic that we are all faced with.

find a vaccine or remedy for this sickness. we
pray to the Lord…LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER.
C andles may be lit
for loved ones who
have died, also in
gratitude, supplication
or any other intention.
Small donation of $3 is
requested to offset the
cost of the candle.
Note: candles are now available. Be sure to use a stick provided to light the candle and please remember to take that stick with you; it is a one time use. Thank you.

Month 8: Thank You from your Spiritually Adopted Baby:
Now I am finishing my development, concentrating on gaining weight. I am probably starting to make my mother uncomfortable with my size. For some time now I have recognized my mother’s voice. In a short time, I will be born. On behalf of mom and me, thank you for your prayers for the past eight months. It has not been easy, but your prayers have given her the grace she needed to make the right choices. Mark Witzberger 304-312-0583 —- [email protected]

Those who conceal their sins do not prosper, but those who confess and forsake them obtain mercy —Proverbs 28:13
May 31, 2020 Pentecost Sunday —Year A Page 5
P entecost Sunday marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles.
Pentecost Sunday occurs 50 days after Easter (the name comes from
the Greek pentekoste, “fiftieth”) . The Bible records the Pentecost in Acts
2:1-13. Pentecost is also known as “the birthday of the Church. Pentecost fulfills
Jesus' promise to send the "Counselor" and "Spirit of Truth" in John 16-5-15.
Pentecost launches large-scale spreading of the Gospel after Jesus' ascension.
Acts 2:41 records that after Peter spoke to the crowd after receiving the Holy
Spirit, some 3,000 people were baptized. Pentecost is represented with the
color red, which symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third
part of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
