DataCite and Auto-update
DataCite’sauto-update
steps
Researchers: (1) use ORCID iD when submitting a dataset, and (2) authorize DataCite via profiles to update your ORCID record.
Data centers: (1) collect ORCID identifiers during the submission (2) embed the iD in the published work and include the iD when submitting to DataCite.
DataCite: Upon receipt of data from a data center with a valid identifier, DataCite will automatically push that information to the researcher’s ORCID record.
DataCite’s implementation of auto-update
• New profiles service; researchers sign into DataCite with ORCID id and get personalized services
• Central place to interact with DataCite services. Can scale to other services
• Connect search & link and auto-update in a single place
DataCite Profiles: open source

How will this look and when?• example of a profile –
show all DataCite records with ORCID IDs
• DataCite Profiles will launch this week
• Connect the dots and create an incentive
• Next steps: 1. push DOIs with
ORCIDs to ORCID (permission)
2. push all DOIs with ORCIDs and collect permissions via new ORCID notifications API
