Ah May, the season of renewal in the Upper Midwest.Furnaces are shut off, new life in the outdoors is visibleeverywhere, birds are returning and vocal, the days are farlonger than recent past and in some cases there are majorleague baseball teams actually winning games (currentlythe Twins are 8 and 11 and 5-1/2 games out of first as wego to press). It’s also the start of the up tic in tire sales withsnow tires coming off, plans for the upcoming summer sea-son and vacation travels, not to mention the opening of thefishing season. All in all, it’s the start of our long anticipat-ed spring, summer and fall seasons – oh yes, doesn’t it alsoappear that attitudes are more positive?Additionally, there are also two major events that occur in

May. One is Mother’s Day. I remember once when therewas a movement to change Mother’s Day as it often con-flicted with the Minnesota Fishing Opener. A short livedattempt in that Mother’s Day is a national day of recogni-tion, and most other states aren’t as excited about a“Fishing Opener”. I’ve always looked forward to this day(weekend) as it has been one of calmness, befitting thetheme of motherhood. Often taken for granted, mothershave just as often been credited with being the foundationof the family, the common sense in conflict resolution andthe one true example of unconditional love. I hope every-one has a beautiful Mother’s Day, however you celebrate, and even though they already know it guys – make sure youremind them how special they are!The second big event in May is a day that is also very

special to me, Memorial Day, the kick off to the first ofthree – three day weekends we all look forward to in thesummer (4th of July and Labor Day being the others). Morethan a three day holiday, this day more significantly marksour country’s recognition of those who gave so we can

Message From The President – Pat McFarlane benefit. As a veteran myself, I’ve often reflected on the ageof “those” that gave and it’s hard for a country to grasp thefact that the vast majority of these fine people were merelyin their late teens. What were we doing, or what wasimportant to us, when we were 17, 18 and 19? Most oftenthought about is WWII of course, but the vast majority ofour nation’s conflicts were manned by persons in this agegroup, not only engaged to protect our nation but also toestablish our country and at times to preserve it, AmericanRevolution and Civil War respectively. Let us not reserveour memorializing to simply those who served in the armedforces but also those that supported their efforts on thehome front and abroad. Let us never lose sight of the factthat these days of recognition need to be taught to our chil-dren. Maybe the age factor will bring a greater sense ofappreciation to future generations. What a coincidence that we celebrate Mother’s Day and

Memorial Day in the same month. After all, if the mothersreally could have had their say we probably would neverhave needed the second day of recognition!Back by popular demand is another Minnesota Twins

game on Sunday, September 20th at Target Field at 1:00p.m. Again this year, we will be sitting in the “Great Clips”area. By coincidence, the Twins will be playing the LosAngeles Angels again this year. The cost per ticket is $28,which includes a $10 food and beverage voucher. We haveonly 109 seats reserved for the game, so please sign up assoon as possible if you, your family, your employees andyour friends would like to attend. most difficult way is, in the long run, the easiest.”
