Viking Food And Climate

• Vikings enjoyed a lot of different food and drink, even though the weather in their home in Northern Europe was very bad.

• Fish was an important part of their diet.

• They pickled the left-over fish that they did not eat in salt water to preserve it for the next time.

Cooking

• Much of a Viking woman’s time was spent cooking.

• Although they had a hole in their roof, Viking houses were always smoky.

• The Viking children’s jobs were to feed the livestock, weeding the garden and chasing the pesky birds away.

Cutlery

• Vikings only had knives to cut their food with so they mostly ate with their hands.

• Wealthy Vikings wore:• Metal helmets• Wooden shields• Chain mail shirts and an animal skin coat.• Average farmers wore:• Spear• Shield• And maybe a seax.
