Exploring Venus

• Venus is covered in mostly craters.

• These craters were formed when meteors crashed into the surface.

• Venus temperature can reach up to 867F 464C.

Early missions

• Sputnik 1 was the first human made object to orbit earth.

• Mariner 2 did not land on Venus it did a flyby mission.

• Mariner 2 sent back information about planet Venus.

Early Missions

• In 1970 another soviet spacecraft went to Venus.

• In 1974 Mariner 10 became the first spacecraft two visit the two planets.

• Mariner 10 took more then 4000 photos as it flow past venus.

Early missions

• In may of 1989 the united states launched the Magellan spacecraft.

• IN 1997 the Cassini orbiter flew by Venus.

• The spacecraft traveled to Saturn.

Exploring Mars

• Mars can reach a temperature of 60F 15C during its summer.

• But its winter temperture drop to 225F below zero -140C.

• The tallest mountain on mars is Olympus. moon

Early missions to mars

• Scientist began looking for life on mars.

• From 1960 to 1962 the Soviet union launched the fire spacecraft they hoped would reach mars.

• All five failed.

Early missions to mars

• Mariner 4 preformed

the first successful mars mission yet.

• The 1980s brought two failed attempts to reach mars.

• The pathfinder was launched through space for several months.

Future exploration

• Scientist launched messenger in august 2004.

• They launched Venus Express in November 2005.

• Messenger will fly past venus twice

Future exploration

• Each time messenger will send back information.

• Then it will continue to mercury.

• Mercury is the closets planet to the sun.

Future exploration

• The European space agency is in charge of space travel for European countries.

• The venus express is the ESAS first probe to go to venus.

Future exploration

• The venus express will explore the planets stormy atmosphere.

• Scientist hope this will help them learn more about global warming

• Venus has a thick layer of clouds.

Future exploration

• Venus clouds trap heat and raise the planets temperature.

• These missions may use robot planes balloons to explore mars.

• NASA is also planning to send out scouting missions in 2009.

Future exploration

• In 2011 the first sample return mission is expected to launch.

• This will send a rover to mars and collect rock and soil.

• The rover will then blast off from mars and return to earth,.
