EUROPE 2020 A strategy for smart, sustainable
and inclusive growth Europe 2020 is the EU's growth strategy for the coming decade
(2010-2020)
Three mutually reinforcing priorities:
• Smart growth (knowledge/innovation)
• Sustainable growth (greener/competitive economy)
• Inclusive growth (social cohesion)
High levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion
Excellence Science - Competitive Industries - Better Society
A NEW STRATEGIC APPROACH
Help Member States and Regions reach
the Europe 2020 goals, i.e.,
smart, sustainable and inclusive growth,
focusing on development, job, climate changes,
energy dependence and social inclusion.
To direct resourses towards key fields of growth
At regional level, the Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialization (RIS3) needs to be based on a strong partnership between
businesses, public entities and knowledge institutions, in order to identify the real needs of the local economy for a greater impact on regional development
Goals:
enhancement talents and competences as change key factors; support emerging social and environmental challenges that need more appropriate public policies to link needs of areas with products/services innovation;
Sharing knowledge above the local line;
Support for competitiveness and job creation by addressing the key challenges of society.
SMART SPECIALIZATION STRATEGY AT THE REGIONE PUGLIA – “SMARTPUGLIA 2020” Integration between
research, innovation, competitiveness
internationalization, education, job, surrounding,
transports, welfare and health
The “THIRD MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY”: the bridge between
research, industry and society
… the mutual responsibility of training and production world in the evolution
and integration of knowledge
A number of Actors from different sectors and disciplines are connected together
and continuously interact to advance knowledge and innovation.
In each of these ecosystems, UNIBA and other Puglia’s Universities play a
substantial role in creating new knowledge and its dissemination to the society.
What’s the role of UNIBA working
in this context?
“Piano Strategico di Ateneo”
TODAY THE THIRD MISSION OF THE RESEARCH BODY BECOMES AN IMPORTANT INDICATOR IN THE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Universities have
been asked to
optimize their
roles as key
players within
society…
By trying to
create regular
and continuous
relationships with
the companies,
public
administration
and the society
By paying attention to the
territories and companies’
needs and not only by
presenting the
technological offer of the
researchers…
By making researcher
know-how available in
order to create value
on our territory
How is UNIBA responding to this challenge? “Piano Strategico di Ateneo”
To facilitate a more structured relationship between research and education supply
and demands from economic, social and institutional fabric of territory
To promote Puglia as Excellence Region in EU and World context, also by the
networking of the three strategic Actors within the knowledge economy:
University, Public Administration and Companies
To build a sound and structured partnership of goals, strategies and plans of action
shared with the others Actors of the territory
Areas
of
action
Supports innovation and technology transfer
Action aimed at increasing the number and quality of structured partnerships between University Departments and Companies, in order to developing new technologies or product and process innovations.
.
Training and development of human resources
Increasing the number and quality of structured partnerships between Departments, Companies, P.A., Agencies and Professional Associations in increasing the quality of human resources and access to the job market.
Contribution to sustainable development
To increase the sustainability of long-term development of the Community, the P.A. and local companies and improve the quality of services provided to citizen through high innovation initiatives and widespread information and monitoring.
… contribution to a sustainable development
To meet the needs of the community minimizing impacts
Careful with the vocations of the territory
UI GreenMetric World University ranking evaluates and
compares the environmental sustainability of the Campus University via three criteria: 1)Methodology and indicators for environmental sustainability policies 2)Sustainability (policies, actions and communication) 3) Awareness-raising on the community
In Italy…
1. University of Bologna
2. University of Turin
3. University of Bari
Score 5.6 140 out of 361
1. University of Nottingham (UK)
2. University College Cork, National
University of Ireland
3. Nottingham Trent University (UK)
Score 7.8
Score 7.55
Score 7.53
UNIBA created the Committee for Environmental Policy/Protection and the Quality of Life (COPAQ), and, first in
Italy, credited as Education Center and Environmental Experience (CEEA)
UNIBA has joined to "Cicloattivi@Università": 100 bicycles
delivered to the Campus University for the second edition of the
project "Cicloattivi @ Università".
«Talsef», «Taranto in sunlight and the photovoltaic energy», an
educational lab for the study of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency
… where we are now
A novel proposal: “ UNIBA Green University ”
Areas of intervention: 1.Energy saving; 2.Emission reduction (greenhouse gases); 3.Waste reduction & recycling; 4.Urban mobility (from/to Campus); 5.Reduction of materials consumption (‘dematerialization’) , with raw material savings
“UNIBA Green University” wants to pursue the goal of sustainability,
and in particular, of the environmental sustainability, realizing a plan
of action to make the university sustainable.
It targets the entire academic community: professors, researchers, administrative
staff, students and graduates.
To reduce emissions of carbon dioxide
University students are promoting initiatives of GREEN CITY (e.g. support for door to door
collection, information activities)
E.g.: Waste reduction and recycling
E.g.: Urban mobility
An agreement is being currently defined with the ISFORT or INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION
AND RESEARCH FOR TRANSPORT to sensitize students and citizens on the topic of
sustainable mobility, starting from pedestrian movements and the use of public transport
“ENEL agreement” includes electric cars
After the Social report experience, the University of Bari will realize the
Environmental Report according to ISPRA method
Green buying, rational management of resources, implementation of the principles of prevention and precaution, reduction of the amount of waste and improvement of recycling, use of alternative energy.
Consolidation of experience in the field of environmental sustainability, protection and recovery of the landscape, the Eco-literacy in formal, non-formal and informal educational environments, etc.
The Puglia region asked UNIBA and POLIBA to realize “Future Labs”, that are fisical or virtual places where promoting and supporting
“knowledge contamination” processes that may impact on business initiative and innovation culture, thus facilitating the spread
of new learning models.
… improvement of human resources
«United we win, divided we fall ... a collective path to learn, to make mistakes, realize own vision for oneself, for others, with others to the world we inhabit.»
a different University for a different future
«A place where I can meet the other, his ideas, I can make something with him,
meeting the witness, the mentor, the supporter, the master...I found help, I listen, I candidate myself...I deepen……. It’s the place of opportunity....» (GdG)
A debate place, groundwork, seedbed of ideas where:
Take a challenge
Cultivate ideas, promote relationships, build scenarios
Invent and build a new creative space, open and generative which
connect intelligences to multiply opportunities
Technological Districts, Public-
Private Networks Laboratory, Venture Capital, professional associations, foreign
universities, ... ,…
Involving 18 -35 years old students born or resident in Puglia
Selected, out of 150 ideas, 42 proposals in different subject areas, that are following a training workshop and
cultural contamination
