Next Friday 24th March we will hold a special assembly to celebrate the range of school leaders we have here—captains, prefects, SRC members, library monitors, sports captains etc. It will be held 2.15pm in the hall. Please join us. COMPUTER COURSE A FREE Computer Course will be offered at our school next Tuesday 21st February at 3.15pm. Sydney launches national Year of Reading

A PLACE bursting

with books (the State

Library) had to be the

best venue to launch

the National Year of

Reading in Sydney.

With 46% of the

population unable to

read a medicine

label, Premier, Mr

O’Farrell said

Australia was not where it should be when it

comes to reading in comparison to some other

countries.

“Reading is part of the basic building blocks

for life and important for life-long learning,”

Mr O’Farrell said.

Children’s author Deborah Abela said the focus

on reading for the year was about turning our

children into readers.

“Start early and get them hooked when they

are young,’’ Ms Abela said. “The most active

brain development is from zero to three

months. Read to children as soon as they are

born.”

She suggested audio books and graphic novels

to get children reading.

“Kids love story they just need to be

reminded of it.’”

There will be a Twitter reading group and a

poetry party with author Libby Hathorn as part

of the reading activities during the year.
