DTI-r developed the Dutyion™ Root Hydration System - dRHS™, an irrigation technology based
around pervaporation and irrigation with water vapour. The technology was developed to enable
polluted water, seawater, waste industrial water and run off to be used for irrigation without the need
for any pre treatment or purification
Testing in the DTI-r greenhouses growing tomato, maize and many other crops prior to field scale
trials in the deserts of the Middle East. The technology was demonstrated in the extreme climate of
the Abu Dhabi desert, irrigating and supporting 200 Prosopis trees through 18 months of high and
very high daytime temperatures, in excess of 50°c with almost zero rainfall
As the direct result of the field scale trials and the work previously undertaken in the DTI-r
greenhouses the technology has been licenced to DuPont on a WorldWide basis for all terrestrial
based irrigation applications

DTI-d has developed a way to dewater virtually any wet material, whether it is MSW, a waste solution such as
slurry or sewage or a solution containing valuable materials in dilution which makes it marginal to recover from
dilute but valuable when dewatered & concentrated. These streams can be dewatered to whatever degree is
appropriate for the desired end result - the technology retains virtually all microbes
DTI-d has been approached to dewater anaerobic sludge in order to make sludge disposal significantly more
economic as the weight of water is removed and the volume of waste is hugely diminished
There are many applications for this technlogy since the technique relies on pervaporation, ensuring virtually all
contaminants and or valuable components are retained within the apparatus and concentrated by the process for
more economic segregation and recovery
DTI-d is also working on the dewatering of slurry, particularly from milk farms in the Middle East in order to gasify
the waste (see DTI-p) to return energy to the farms and totally solve the environmental problem in a totally
sustainable way - this technique applies to human sewage as well as slurry or indeed virtually any waste water,
perhaps from industrial processes
One of the spin-off advantages of this technique is that the pervaporated water vapour can be recovered and,
subject to the method of recovery, is the equivalent of nano-pure water as determined in NASA’s Space Science
Labs in Florida. In essence, the by-product of the technique is pure water

Labs Florida
DTI has been working with NASA to determine the purity of water obtained by the DTI-w technology. In
terms of desalination, the DTI-w technology does not compete with Reverse Osmosis plants,
particularly the massive RO plants found in coastal regions of the Middle East. However it can compete
in regions where there is no RO plant and no chance of one being built anytime soon. It is also far more
environmentally friendly
The technique is to pervaporate water through a Dytyion™ membrane and condense the pervaporate.
It is simple and effective although the water obtained is so pure it needs to have mineral salts added
back into it to make it palatable
Water is essential for all forms of living thing. Whilst there is more than enough water on the planet for
almost any need imaginable, the problem is most of it is contaminated, usually with salt. The DTI-w
solution to the problem is simple and effective. It can be done on a non grid basis, locally, with virtually
no civil engineering. A 40ft shipping container sized unit can produce more than 10,000 gallons a day.

DTI-f has looked at the Worlds resources of water, land, fuel and food. From the previous pages it will
be clear that many of the Worlds problems can be solved with DTI solutions. One area that is stubbornly
limited is the area of land available for farming. It is considered that in excess of 80% of the available
agricultural land is already in use or has been trashed by poor farming practices. There are vast areas
of land not currently suitable for agriculture and it is these areas that DTI-f has turned it’s attention to
DTI-f has designed a building which is able to be virtually self sustaining, can be built almost anywhere
and particularly in desert regions on sand where nothing will normally grow. The key feature of the
design is that the majority of the building’s exterior is in permanent shade and the small area which is in
full sun is actively worked as a solar collector
Farming in a controlled environment is a far more productive way of producing food than in the open air.
Added to which, one acre of surface land can be turned into multiple acres of growing acreage with
multiple growing levels both above and below the surface. Further, with a controlled environment there
is less need for pesticides and herbicides and zero reliance on direct rainfall. Most of the water used to
grow crops can be recovered for re-use. All the ‘waste’ biomass can be turned into cooling or electrical
power and harvesting can be done in any weather, even debilitating sandstorms.
The amount of fresh clean water required to grow crops in a controlled environment is very substantially
less than is required in the open air due to simple recovery systems and reduced losses to evaporation

* Interest in renewable energy has been spurred on by the oldest causes of all - necessity, wealth and power - in all senses (some more of those fatal flaws!) - man is now looking to find ‘true’ renewables - ie, natural sources of energy which are not used up faster than they are replenished and which do the least possible harm - ideally no harm - to the environment Wind Power - Solar Power - Wave Power - these are interesting because they are seen as ‘totally renewable’ and ‘essentially totally green’ - these factors tick a lot of boxes. In the case of Wind and Solar Power, the technologies used to harvest these sources of energy are well understood and although efficiency gains are still there to be made, they are very usefully efficient technologies already today. Wave Power technology is lagging a little behind but is gaining ground quickly - the only thing is - Wind Power - depends on the wind - no wind no power - oh heck Solar Power - only works during daylight and only seriously usefully in bright sunlight - limiting Wave Power - depends on the wind - hang on, I’ve heard that recently somewhere . . . We can only boil the kettle during the day or when we have a windy night - oh dear*

tyres, waste paper, waste printer cartridges, waste plastic bottles, slurry, sewage, biomass,
discarded timber, old clothes, waste industrial water, hospital waste, the list is endless, but so is
the DTI-w solution . . .
Metal recycling is a mature valuable trade worth billions a year. Plastic recycling is taking off but
recycled plastics are generally degraded iterations of their former selves. The problem of sewage
is very often pumped into the sea and forgotten about - a crime on any level. Old car tyres are a
problem every corner of the Globe, there are tyre mountains consisting of literally millions of tyres
in many places. Old mattresses are a huge problem everywhere, even in landfill sites where they
cause big problems. Cattle slurry, often simply pumped onto fields or into open festering
evaporation ponds or simply into the desert, an environmental catastrophe visible on Google
Earth.
DTI-w has a solution to virtually every single form of carbon based waste, all the above and almost
everything not mentioned . . . which returns around 97% of it to useful purpose in a different form
and can even return it to new plastic, not degraded low value plastic . . .

For waste disposal, DTI is already working in partnership developing the total solution. DTI-w’s solution is to de-water any wet carbon based waste and gasify it. Gasification is a closed cycle method of converting ‘waste’ into energy (syngas) with zero emissions and a waste stream of virtually inert ash or bio char which is less than 3% of the treated waste. The gas has very similar characteristics to LPG, used globally for cooking, heating and industrial processes. Waste ceases to be a problem but becomes a valuable resource. Obviously some materials do not need to be de-watered but the technology can take any waste stream in any combination. In traditional gasification the gasifier will not work unless it is fed with a highly segregated single waste stream, wood chip for instance.

DTI-w & our partners in waste conversion have developed a way to avoid the normal limitations of gasification and the technology can take any mix of waste in any combination on an ever changing basis. This is a unique solution and means that the technology can be used to convert the most difficult and environmentally damaging waste streams and turn them into a valuable resource. Dehydrated sewage and slurry are good cases in point, they make high quality syngas!
Syngas can be simply converted to dimethylether, DME, a fossil fuel replacement, which is extremely clean burning and has a slightly higher energy density than diesel. There are a number of trials of DME powered vehicles, trucks and cars, around the World being run as we speak

DTI-w’s gasification is small scale, deliberately. Most commercial gasification is done on a huge scale with highly segregated and homogenised waste streams.
Gasification to electricity on a small scale can deliver reliable power to small town or village scale grid systems as well as solving the waste problem, locally. No more hauling waste.
Furthermore, gasification can generate employment both in the aggregation of waste, the dehydration of any wet waste stream and the management and operational running of the plant. The spin-off benefits of reliable power are almost beyond value to those without and the direct benefit of dealing with virtually 100% of waste in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way make this a compelling opportunity

Many of the DTI technologies you have seen above work as either stand alone applications or in unison. For
instance de-watering and fresh water production. Extend that to de-watering, waste conversion and fresh
water production. The benefits of using the technologies together are that the various elements work
symbiotically, the waste heat from gasification can be harvested and used to enhance dehydration, enhanced
dehydration means less power is required to de-water and therefore there is more power to sell and so on.

DTI-s has developed a collision avoidance technology which removes the ambiguity and contradictory
signalling of current brake lights
In normal driving conditions the brake lights are simple, dumb, - ‘light on’ - ‘light off’ - signals with no
specific meaning. The signal is generally understood but in reality is non specific, open to
interpretation and more particularly misinterpretation and split second wrong information. This can be
dangerous and lead to accidents, some of which will tragically and unnecessarily fatal
The DTI-s iDBS solution is to take the brake light, enhance it’s capabilities, add intelligence to the
signalling so that it is simply and intuitively able to show not just that the brake pedal is being pressed
but also how heavily the brake is being pressed, any changes to the rate of slowing and also whether a
vehicle is moving and braking or simply stopped. Single meaning clear intuitive signals requiring no
interpretation
Road safety is something which affects us, our children, our wider families, in fact almost everyone. It
is wrong to have dumb - light on - light off - signals which can be, and often are, misinterpreted. DTI-s
has a very low cost solution which will reduce accidents and the misery they cause, costing health
