Barrel Republic, the beer bar that started in Pacific Beachwith a “freedom to pour”concept, celebrated its thirdanniversary inNovemberwith theOct. 29openingof itsthirdlocationinCarlsbadandaslewofcelebrationsandSanDiegoBeerWeekevents.Fortheofficialthirdanniversarypartiesatalllocations,BarrelRepublicteamedupwithBelching Beaver and Artifex Brewing to brew a commemorative beer. Their taps alsofeaturedspecialbrewsfromeachbrewery,includingBarrel-AgedDammed,Barrel-AgedHorchata,aBrettIPAandapeachsourale.
OtherSDBWeventsincludedaHopNationtap takeover that featured some of SanDiego’s hoppiest beers from a variety oflocalbreweries.TheyalsoteamedupwithStone, Coronado Brewing, Mike HessBrewing, Ballast Point andModern Timesthroughouttheweek.As if three years in Pacific Beach andsuccessfully opening locations inOceanside and Carlsbad aren’t enoughreasons to celebrate,BarrelRepublic alsowas recognized recently by DraftMagazineasoneofthe100bestbeerbarsin the country — it was one of just fivebarsinSanDiegoCountytomakethelist.
“MytopmomentatBarrelisbeinghonoredaspartofanelitegroup,”saidPacificBeachManagerMikeMaugeroftherecognition.“I’msoexcitedfor[owner]DavePikeandhisteamtogettothatpointinjusthisfirstthreeyears.”ThenewestadditiontotheBarrelRepublicfamilyislocatedintheCarlsbadVillage.With52tapsandafullfoodmenuofupscalepubfare,it’spoisedtobejustaspopularasthePacificBeachandOceansidelocations.The freedom to pour concept,where guests pre-pay and get awristband that trackshowmanyouncestheypourthemselvesfromthetaps,isprovingattractive—especiallyinaregionsuchasSanDiegowheretherearesomanybeerstochoosefrom.
