STYLE OF PRODUCTION
• The style of the play would resemble naturalism
• This would be done by having clothing from the 1950's to resemble the portrayl of the characters in that time period
HISTORICAL PERIOD
• The clothing for waitresses in this time period included uniforms that were usually in bright colored dress form and were not the most flattering.
• The clothing for men during this time period was conservative and well groomed.
CHERIE
• She is a young poorly educated chanteuse singer from a small town
• She is being carried away by a young man named Bo to marry him, although she is against it
• Cherie's personality is stubborn, confused and hopeful
• The costume will be of a sexy night club singer
BO
• Cherie is his first love
• He is forcing Cherie to Montana to marry him against her will
• Young boy from Montana that doesn't know how to get a girl, he owns a ranch and is a successful rodeo contestant
• Personality: Stubborn, Proud, Aggressive, Sensitive
• The costume will be well groomed and the typical cowboy with cowboy boots and jeans
VIRGIL• He is an older man that works on Bo's Ranch
• He acts as an adult role model for Bo since his parents are dead
• He is linked to Cherie and Bo because he acts as their mediator throughout the play
• His personality: Quiet, Mysterious, Easy going, Respectful
• His costume is similar to Bo's but since he is older is more well groomed than Bo
GRACE
• Grace is the owner of the diner and in her late mid- 40s
• She is married but her husband travels and therefore is lonely
• She has fling with the bus driver, Carl, and become intimate in the play
• Her personality: mother-figure, wise, happy, nice
• Her costume will resemble the typical fifties diner girl uniform that is not super trendy
CARL• Is a hefty man in his forties
• He is the Bus driver
• His personality: Respectful, Funny, Witty, Charming
• He has a fling with Grace, the owner of the diner
• His costume is a old uniform that represents his occupation and is conservative
ELMA
• She is a young high school girl who works at the diner
• Her personality: Smart, naive, hopeful, friendly, caring
• She is hopeful that everyone can find true love
• Becomes interested in Dr. Lyman and his background
• Her costume is the same as Graces, a typical fifties girl diner dress that is not fashionable
DR. GERALD LYMAN• He is an older man in his fifties, that is a college professor
• He is currently traveling to another city because he left quit his last job at a University
• He has been married 3 times and doesn't regret any of them
• He is an alcoholic who pursues young women
• Personality: Happy, carefree, strange
• He takes interest in Elma through their love of poetry
• It is said that he was ran out of Missouri for attempting to pursue young girls
• His costume is conservative, well groomed, and professional since he is a college professor and has a PhD
WILL• Will is the town sheriff who defends and protects
• His Personality: Respectable, Trustworthy, Dependable, Friendly, Stern, Hardworking
• He makes sure that order is established at the diner and protects Cherie from Bo
• He makes sure that the roads are safe, so that the people at the diner can continue their journey
• He is close to Grace and treats everyone with respect
• His costume is of high quality, well groomed, professional sheriff uniform that shows his respectable
