COSTUME DESIGN AND PROPS

JAMES’ COSTUME

The costuming used for James includes, first of all, his iconic blue jacket. This appears throughout the film in order for the audience to be aware that they are seeing James, if they do not have a full picture of him. In addition to this, another key element of his costuming is his glasses. These alert the viewer, to begin with, that James may be slightly ‘nerdy’ and therefore he isn’t represented as a stereotypical killer. This effect works well, since it leads the audience to expect the unexpected. All these elements also tie in to create a typical teenage look, in order to attract the target audience.

KELLY’S COSTUME

Kelly is also a key character, and is seemingly the one who relates to the viewers the most according to my questionnaire results. Since this is the case, she simply wears ‘typical’ teenager clothes, which are up to date, in order to make the audience aware that she is not a threat. The colours of her clothing are sometimes bright, which connote happiness, and liveliness, something which is not the case within James’ costuming.

JESSICA’S COSTUME

Jessica, similar to Kelly, needs to make the audience aware that she is not a threat, and is on the side of the protagonist. She is well groomed, and also wears stereotypical teenage girls clothing. The colour scheme isn’t as bright as that of Kelly, since she is more wary of the situation, and in some cases, stays out of the limelight. In the side image we see one of Jessica’s typical outfits, a pair of leggings with a grey lacey jumper.

NATHAN’S COSTUME

Nathan also is dressed in simplistic teenage stereotypical clothing. Throughout the film, Nathan will wear various coloured t-shirts, in order to match Kelly’s vibrancy, which alerts the viewer that Nathan is also on the side of the protagonist. Although this is the case, when he is angry, and meets the stalker (James) we see him wearing a black coat. The use of black relates to evil and darkness, alerting the viewer that something bad may happen.

PROP 1: IPHONE

The Iphone is an essential prop for the opening scene in the trailer. The Iphone is used to display the strange/obsessive text messages which the stalker sends Kelly every single day. The phone alerts the viewer that the trailer is taking place in current times, which may make them relate to Kelly once again.

PROP 2: PHOTOS

The images/photos really alert the viewers to the extent of the stalkers obsession. They will be used throughout the trailer in various ways, such as the stalker printing them, putting them up, and maybe even kissing them. I feel that this will really bring fear to the viewers since it brings his obsession to the surface.
