PROPOSED ELEMENTARY SCHOOLBINJITIWAABIK ZAAGING ANISHINAABEK
Over three consecutive work terms (two four month, one eight) I worked for the small four person firm H.Bradford Green Architect in Thunder Bay. This allowed me to develop my technical architectural skills through a multitude of small projects and allowed me to see through the design & construction of a small elementary school for the Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation in Rocky Bay, Ontario. The site was distinctly rural, set just below Lake Nipigon, with standard road access.
The design brief was as follows:The Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation is undertaking to hire a Consultant to provide professional architectural and engineering design services, as outlined in their Terms of Reference dated May 18, 2010, to provide the community with an elementary school facility, in conformance with INAC Space Accommodation Standards, which will accommodate appropriate programs for students ranging from kindergarten though grade 8. The design will reflect both the educational philosophy and goals of the Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation while allowing for potential expansion to accommodate future growth of the community.
My duties included: -Preparation of construction drawings with the aid of one technician
-Coordination of Architectural drawings with HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing
-Sourcing some of the required products
-Preparation of some of the specifications
-Preparation of presentation imagery
