The Pink Ribbon
(Short Story—By Nola Johnson)
Chapter Two Julia was the eldest of 4 children She had a brother and 2 sisters. Julia always looked forward to Aunt Sylvia's visits because she brought such wonderful gifts. In 1935, it was Julia's 13th birthday when Aunt Sylvia brought her a present. The gift was a new pair of bib overalls and socks. But the best thing about that gift was the pink satin rib-bon tied to the package. Julia loved that ribbon and dreamed that someday she would be able to design a new dress to match that ribbon. Then she would get a pair of black patent leather shoes. If she wore that outfit at the dances, she would be the envy of all the girls in town. There wasn't a lot of things to do in their small town. They had church on Sunday and the grange had dances every Saturday night. That's where Julia met James Stockton. He and his dad lived on a nearby farm, but there was so much work to do that the only time they got to see each other was Saturday night and Sunday at church. But they developed a great friend-ship. To Be Continued.............

Independence Day!
The Fourth of July—also known as Independ-ence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holi-day in the United States since 1941, but the tra-dition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Rev-olution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a his-toric document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independ-ence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. The Fourth of July 2020 is on Saturday, July 4, 2020.
We wanted to thank all of the volunteers that help with Free Lunch Friday! From the cooks, to the people outside handing out the delicious lunches, and the clean up
crew, THANK YOU! We couldn't
do it without you!

Ways in Which Seniors Can
Avoid Slip, Trip and Fall Acci-
dents:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25 percent of seniors age 65 and older suffer a fall every year. Annually, slip, trip and fall accidents among the elderly account for 2.8 million injuries and 27,000 deaths. Many suffer head trauma, hip fractures and lacerations due to falls. Fortunately, there are ways to make a living environment safer and improve a senior’s health so they can avoid a fall. ➢ Engage in Regular Exercise Many falls among seniors are caused by muscle weakness. Seniors can combat this by doing strength-building exercises. Walking, swim-ming and dancing are examples of exercises that build leg strength while improving coordi-nation and balance. ➢ Keep Clutter off the Floor Clutter is a common cause of trips and falls. Assess the floor regularly and look for items that could cause a person to fall. These include electrical cords, pet toys, magazines, shoes, baskets and plants. Even rugs can bunch up and cause a fall. on the substance and cause a serious fall. ➢ Use Assistive Devices If you tend to wobble when you walk, a cane can help. If you have stairs, use the rails to as-sist you. In bathrooms, grab bars are helpful, especially in showers. ➢ Enhance the Lighting Many falls are caused by an inability to see what’s in front of you. Add brighter lighting outdoors as well as in frequently used areas in-doors, such as hallways, bathrooms, kitchens and staircases. ➢ Check Hearing and Vision Annually Hearing loss can lead to balance issues, and this can make a senior more prone to falling. Vision is also a factor, since it’s easy to trip on something you didn’t see and suffer a fall as a result. As we age, our eyes are more suscepti-ble to conditions such as glaucoma and cata-racts. Poor depth perception and blurriness may also play a role. Get your eyes and ears checked once a year to address any of these possible issues.
