ExplanationEssentially, the assembly edit of a text is the first stage of any editorial process.

It is deciding which takes of all the clips you will be using and placing this into the chronological order explained in your final storyboard.

ProcessWhen you place together the assembly edit of your feature, you won’t be cutting any of the clips to their correct lengths or adding in any special effects. It merely involves the basic ordering and placement of the clips.

Why is an assembly edit needed?An assembly edit of any production allows the editor to see the basic structure of the film, giving them an idea of what needs to be changed to match the planned features. It also shows anything that needs to be re-recorded due to continuity errors, lighting changes or any other problems.
