THE PURPOSEScrumGuide – The purpose of the Sprint
Retrospective is to: Inspect how the last Sprint went with regards to
people, relationships, process, and tools
Identify and order the major items that went well and potential improvements
Create a plan for implementing improvements to the way the Scrum Team does its work
QUESTION? If you are participating in retrospectives today, are
you meeting this definition? Are you meeting the purpose? If you’re not currently doing retrospectives, how
might an activity like this help you and your team? Your personal relationships?
Who wants to share?
LET’S DISCUSSNot all retrospectives go well…
What must exist with team/groups for a retrospective to be hugely valuable?1. Discuss at your table2. Write down your top 3 things on stickies3. Bring them up to the board when done4. We’ll use a 7 minute timebox
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDERRetrospectives are hugely valuable to a team
achieving high performanceThey must be plannedThe team must all participate by gathering data
and sharing what they felt, observed, heard during the sprint
Trust must exist within a team where difficult topics and challenging conversations can happen
Without this, how can a team improve?
SOME TECHNIQUESThere are a number of different techniques and
ways to conduct a retrospectiveEach technique may address slightly different
issues but all should be in the name of CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
