WELCOME TO THE PERFORMING ARTS INDUSTRY AT ACPA
ACPA is Australia’s only centre offering courses that
incorporate all performing arts genres.
Our individualised learning framework has resulted
in 90 percent of ACPA graduates securing full-time
or part-time employment or progressing to further
education.
We welcome Indigenous students from all over
Australia to learn from our global network of industry
experts, and to develop your potential as an arts
leader of the future.

through performance. ACPA’s programs respect
this rich heritage of ceremony, singing, dancing and
yarning, in a modern context.

Our work also contributes significantly to the Council
of Australian Governments’ (COAG) Closing the Gap
Initiative - maintaining, valuing and strengthening
Indigenous cultures and improving Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people’s skills and employment
outcomes.

Torres Strait Islander performing artists and art
professionals.

We now have the Certificate II in Performing Arts
available to eligible schools to provide this program
externally within the school. This program is an
excellent pathway for students who are interested in
studying Performing Arts at a tertiary level.
The Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts is
now offering the opportunity for eligible Secondary
Schools in QLD to partner with us to offer the
Certificate II in Performing Arts externally through
their school.
This means that your students can complete a
nationally accredited vocational qualification during
their senior years. This program is an excellent
pathway for students who are interested in studying
Performing Arts at a tertiary level.

HELP YOUR STUDENTS DISCOVER THEIR PERFORMANCE POTENTIALCERTIFICATE II IN PERFORMING ARTS
ACPA’s 10192NAT Certificate II in Performing Arts
course is designed for students ready to take their
first step into the performing arts industry, improve
their pathways into tertiary education, or prepare for
future employment.
Delivered through nine compulsory core units of
music, dance and acting, this foundation course
teaches:
• Listening, music theory and vocal / instrumental
skills
• Health and fitness, physical conditioning,
nutrition, and health and safety stage presence,
vocal development, and common theatre
conventions public speaking and presentation
skills
• The historical, social and cultural significance
of drama and theatre traditional cultural dance,
modern fusion, hip hop, contemporary and
ballet
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible to deliver this program,
schools would require their trainer/teacher
to have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor or Arts (discipline must encompass dance, music and acting).
• Cert IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116).
• Work experience in the Performing Arts sector.
This is a nationally accredited professional qualification in which Indigenous students are encouraged to
participate.

COURSE OUTLINECERTIFICATE II IN PERFORMING ARTS
TOTAL SUPERVISED HOURS - 265 HOURS
TOTAL UNSUPERVISED HOURS - 350 HOURS
Total unsupervised hours may comprise of:
• Participating in community rehearsals and performances
• Rehearsing scripts, music, songs and dance routines
• Researching performing artists, performance styles,
background material for performances
• Monitoring and recording fitness levels, diet and training
program
• Liaising with community and elders
• Listening to music and watching films
Early exit points are not applicable.
A Statement of Attainment will be issued for any unit of
competency completed if the full qualification is not completed.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS COURSE OFFERING
There are no essential entry requirements
for this course. Learners are recommended
to have completed Year 12 at High
School and to have language, literacy and
numeracy skills equivalent to Year 10 High
School standard. LLN support is to be
made available where required.
