INTRODUCTION
• NTPC Limited, the largest thermal power generating company in India, was incepted in year 1975.
• It is a public sector company wholly owned by Government of India (GOI).
• At Kahalgaon, it holds 2340 MW capacity in 7 units of coal based thermal power plant.
COAL TO ELECTRICITY
BOILER & MAIN AUXILIARIES• BOILER IS A DEVICE FOR GENERATING STEAM FOR POWER,
PROCESSING OR HEATING PURPOSES.• MAIN AUXILIARIES- • Economizer• Boiler drum• Down comers• Water walls• Water wall platen(used for pressure boilers)• Primary super heater• Platen super heater• Final super heater• Reheater• Burner• Ignitors
BASIC PRINCIPLE OF BOILER
ARRANGEMENT OF BOILER AUXILIARIES
TURBINE
• A turbine, being a form of engine, requires in order to functioning a suitable working fluid, a source of high grade energy and a sink for low-grade energy.
• When the fluid flows through the turbine, part of the energy content is continuously extracted and converted into useful mechanical work.

PRINCIPLE FOR MOVEMENT OF GASES
• HENRY’S LAW- The mass of gas with definite mass of liquid will dissolve at a given temperature and is directly proportional to the partial pressure of the gas in contact with the liquid. This holds within close limits for any gas, which does not unite chemically with the solvent.
• SOLUBILITY LAW- Solubility of gases decrease with increase in solution temperature and/or decrease in pressure.
OPERATION
• It is the segment which is responsible for proper functioning of whole thermal plant.
• It contains following steps-
1. ASH BUILD-UP2. H2(HYDROGEN) PLANT
FACTORS AFFECTING ESP PERFORMANCE
• RESISTIVITY OF DUST PARTICLES• INLET FLUE GAS TEMPERATURE• FLUE GAS VELOCITY• RAPPING FREQUENCY
GENERATOR
• A machine, which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
• A generator, which is connected to turbine, is named as Turbo generator.
• It has 3 circuits, a) magnetic circuit, b) Electric circuit and c) Mechanical supports and auxiliaries.
Main parts & facts of Generator
• Rotor• Winding• Fans• Slip rings• Filed lead• Stator• Eddy Currents• Slot conductors• Terminal bushings• Air gap
