SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 119:1-8 p. 493

*CALL TO WORSHIP

L: Happy are those who walk in God’s ways. P: Blessed are those who observe God’s commandments. L: Faithful are those whose eyes are fixed on righteousness. P: Joyful are those whose hearts are filled with praise. L: Come, let us love the Lord our God. P: We come to worship the One who leads us in the ways of life.

*HYMN #469 “Morning Has Broken”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Loving God, you call us to walk in your ways, observe your commandments, and love you as you have loved us. You offer us a community of abundant blessing, with rich soil to promote dynamic growth. Yet we often turn away from you to satisfy our own wants and desires. While we should be guided by your love and value your teachings, we look instead for satisfaction in worldly goods and values. Forgive us, O God. When we flee from your embrace, draw us into community with you and with one another. Shower us with the cleansing waters of humility, that we may reclaim our purpose and find nourishment and growth in labors of love to bring your kingdom in our midst.

(silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer)

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: God is alive and at work nurturing our growth, nourishing our needs, and

reconciling us to one another. God hears the confessions of our hearts and forgives generously, sharing love with all who follow in God’s ways. It is through God’s amazing grace that we are forgiven. And all God’s children respond:

P: Thanks be to God.

LENTEN STUDY: THE PATH TO THE CROSS

Ray Vander Laan’s The Path to the Cross: Embracing Obedience and Sacrifice will be the subject of OPC’s 2020 Lenten

Study. Another outstanding entry in Vander Laan’s much loved DVD series filmed on-site in the Holy Land, this book highlights the tremendous love of the Lord for each of his followers and the

importance of developing our relationship with him. It is also packed with revealing details about the culture and customs of first-century life in Judea. Our five-session series begins on

Thursday, March 5th at 7pm in the Oak Room and continues on March 12, 19, 26, and April 2. We hope you will plan on

joining us! Please sign up on the Discipleship Bulletin Board and indicate if you wish to purchase a book ($5).

THE LINUS PROJECT

I, like many of you, have lots of crocheted and knitted blankets that I no longer use. I am collecting them for the veterans, and

would love any donations. At this point I have about seven. I talked to Bill Cecere, and they currently have 15 residents.

I will hold off on bringing them to him until I have that amount. My thought is that when residents transition to other living

arrangements they could take their blanket with them… something someone took the time to make would mean a lot, I think.

After Pastor Tedd’s Christmas Eve service ending with the Charlie Brown Christmas story, I could not stop thinking about the comfort of the blanket to

Linus… who came to the rescue for Charlie Brown.

If you have any blankets that are homemade, please call me at 352-4475. If you can’t bring them to church, I will pick them up.

Thank you! ~Barbara Pratt
