The French Revolution

• Remember the King and the National Assembly were at an impasse.

• They were going to fight.

to live on a budget• The King fired him • The mob took this to

mean that the King was going to attack the National Assembly

The Storming of the Bastille

• It was a fortress / prison in Paris.

• On July 14, 1789, a mob storms the Bastille, releasing a few prisoners and seizing weapons.

The King backs down

• The King loses a lot of power

• The people revolt• They more or less

abolish feudalism themselves

The Declaration of the rights of man

• Modeled after the Declaration of Independence

• It grants people rights• Freedom of the press• Freedom of speech• It limits the power of

the King

• A method of execution

• Used by the revolutionary government

• They used it to execute a lot of nobles
