    Army Troop Leading Procedures:

    1.Receive the Mission.

    2. Issue a warning Order.3. Make a tentative plan.

    4. Initiate Movement.

    5.Reconnoiter.

    6. Complete the plan.

    7. Issue the complete order.

    8. Supervise (and refine).

    TLPs are what a leaders uses to prepare his unit to accomplish a tactical

    mission.

    Begin when

    -leader is alerted for upcoming mission or

    -a change in the mission is received.

    3. Make a tentative plan.

    4.Initiate Movement.

    5.Reconnoiter.6. Complete the plan.

    7.Issue the complete order.

    8. Supervise (and refine).

    Steps 3-8 can be performed in any

    order or at the same:

    Warning Order:

    heads up or apreliminary noticethat an order or an

    action will follow.

    Fragmentary Order:

    Abbreviated form ofan operation order.

    Operation Order:

    Directive issued bythe leader to

    subordinate leaders toexecute a specific

    operation in a

    coordinated manner.

    1. Receive the Mission

    A leader may receive themission in a WARNO,OPORD or a FRAGO.

    When the mission is received theplanning and preparation process

    begins in order to prepare and issueout the WARNO.

    Know your Unitsmission and the timeavailable.

    What is your unitcapable of?

    Who do you havesupport from?

    -One-third, two-thirds rule.

    Use no more than onethird of the availabletime for planning andissuing OPORD.

    Allow the rest of thetime for your

    subordinates to plan andprepare.

    2.Issue Warning Order

    3. Make a Tentative Plan

    Takes place after

    receivingOPOR

    Leader must beable to develop anestimate of the

    situation.

    This is then used asthe basis for thetentative plan.

    Conduct detailed

    mission analysis

    Concept and Intent.

    Unit Tasks.

    Unit Constraints.

    Mission EssentialTasks (METL)

    Restated Mission.

    Analyze the situation

    and develop a COA.

    If time permits youwill develop morethan one COA /

    typically you willonly have one.

    Conduct detailed Mission analysis:

    Concept and Intent:-

    Higher commanders

    concepts and intents two

    levels up. Info. Is found in

    paragraph 1b for two levels

    up and in paragraphs 2 and

    3 for one higher.

    Unit Tasks:.

    -Specified Tasks = tasksthat are clearly stated inthe order.-Implied Tasks = tasksthat become apparent asthe OPORD is analyzed

    -What constraints are

    placed on a leaders unit?

    (Security maintenance,

    prohibition on specific

    actions).

    identify the MET. Not accomplishing a METis failing your mission. MET will be in the

    maneuver paragraph.

    4. Start Necessary Movement

    May need to beginmovement while the leaderis still planning or forward

    reconnoitering.

    May occur anytime during the TLPs.

    Can be used to continuepreparations or to posture

    unit for operations.

    5. Conduct reconnaissance:

    If time allows the leader will make the personal reconnaissance / if time does not

    allow a map recon, or aerial photo or sector sketch recon will suffice.

    Nature of the Recon. (including what it covers and its duration depends on the tactical

    situation and time available.

    6. Complete the Plan:

    Leader completes his plan based on the recon and any changes to the situation.

    These action allow your plan to become a fully developed OPORD:

    Prepared overlays

    Refining the indirect-fire list

    Completing sustainment and command and control requirements

    Updating the tentative plan as a result of the recon.

    -Upon completion of the plan you should already have the briefing site prepared,

    medium and briefing material.

    7. Issue the Complete Order

    When issuing out an OPORD:

    Issue the order in person

    Be confident and look into the eyes ofthose you are presenting to.

    Ensure each leader and soldier

    understands the mission.

    Require subordinates to repeat all r

    part of the order that demonstrates on

    the model or sketch their understanding

    of the operation.

    Quiz your soldiers to ensure they

    understand the mission.

    If possible leaders should issue theorder with one of these following aids:

    Within sight of the objective

    On the defensive terrain Or on a terrain model or sketch

    7. Issue the Complete Order

    5 paragraph OPORD allows you to paint a

    picture of the operation for your subordinates.

    It addresses the details of the operation but also

    allows for subordinates to have a smooth low of

    information.

    8. Supervise and Refine

    Leader supervises the units preparation for combat by conducting rehearsals

    and inspections.

    Conduct a confirmation brief after issuing the oral OPORD.--Face to face is the desired method because all section and squad leaders are

    together to resolve questions / ensuring that each leader know what the next is

    doing.
