THE TEROR

• The revolutionary government of France executed thousands

• People lived in fear of being labeled a royalist

• They were the leading political party during the terror

• Jacobins hold extreme revolutionary views

• They were very fond of the Guillotine

Reaction to the Terror• Some wanted the revolution to

succeed, some didn’t• Americans were split over it• It was the terror that caused a

loss of support• By 1799 the revolution was over• Again money was an issue• Eventually France felt it needed

a dictator

• He was short• Born in Corsica• Ruled as a dictator• Conquered most of Europe• Had a legal code written• Was interested in science• Lost to the British
