Ron Burton proudly serves as the 11th President of the Westchester Jewish Council, the Jewish community relations council for 149 Jewish organizations and synagogues in Westchester. Known by many as the “Connector General” – a title that reflects his passion for bringing people and organizations together – Ron has taken the Council to new heights during his tenure in the realms of Israel advocacy, governmental relations and social media.
While Waterford, Connecticut may not be known for its eruv or lean kosher pastrami, it does lay claim to being Ron’s childhood home. Ron’s parents helped found a Solomon Schechter school in
RonBurton
nearby New London, and otherwise provided their sons with a life infused with Judaism and community service.
A product of Camp Ramah and USY, Ron has always loved things Jewish and has enjoyed spreading that love to other Jews of all denominations. Prior to taking on the Council presidency, Ron served on the Board of Directors of the American Jewish Committee’s Westchester Chapter, and as the President of the Westchester Jewish Center’s Brotherhood. He helped create UJA-Federation’s New Rochelle’s Family Campaign, as well as AIPAC’s Westchester Leadership for Tomorrow initiative. Ron currently serves on the board of directors of the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester and the JCC of Mid-Westchester, and he also sat on the board of the Northern Metro March of Dimes.
Professionally, Ron has been with the real estate law firm of Goldfarb & Fleece LLP since 1992, where he became a partner in 2000. He represents Kaplan, Inc., L&M Development Partners, Inc. and the Rudin family interests.
Ron received his B.A. from Columbia College and his J.D. from Columbia University. His claim to fame in college was that he was the radio play-by-play announcer for the Columbia sports teams and never called a football win in his four-year tenure.
Despite the demands of business and community, he somehow finds time to coach little league baseball and synagogue basketball and cheer at local musical theater productions.
What Ron cherishes the most, however, is the Jewish home he has built in New Rochelle with his wonderful wife, Jocelyn (a much-renowned real estate broker at Houlihan Lawrence), and their three (most-of-the-time) terrific children, Benjamin, Madeline and Zachary, who all attend Schechter Westchester.

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Westchester
February 2. 2013 23 Shevat 5773 Dear Friends, Good evening and welcome to the Westchester Jewish Council’s 37th anniversary gala! We are so pleased to be here tonight to celebrate our community and to honor and pay tribute to our honoree and Council president, Ron Burton, who has done so much to enhance Jewish life here in Westchester. Ron, through his unbridled enthusiasm and indefatigable spirit, has led by example and shown enormous dedication and commitment to the Jewish community. We are grateful for the leadership he has shown in bringing so many diverse parts of the Westchester Jewish community together. We urge you to take the time to read Ron’s biography that is published in this beautiful journal and join us in honoring and thanking him for his many years of service. We know you will share the admiration, pride and appreciation for his accomplishments that we do. We have planned an evening of fun and entertainment with a great musical tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the music of The New Relics (the “in house” band here at Beth El Synagogue), along with schmoozing while enjoying great food and each other’s company and catching up with new and old friends as we honor our friend, Ron Burton. The Westchester Jewish Council serves as the Jewish community relations organization for Westchester County with approximately 140 member organizations serving the 8th largest Jewish community in the United States. Our volunteer board and executive committee work closely with our dedicated professional staff to promote the community building mission of the Council; and we are grateful for the opportunity to be with all of you, our supporters, this evening. Our sincere thanks to our fabulous gala and journal committee members listed in this program, as well. We hope you will take the time to consider bidding at our silent auction and trying for one of our wonderful raffle prizes, additional components of tonight’s festivities. In Pirke Avot – “Ethics of the Fathers” it is written: “The day is short and the work is great” and nothing could be truer for the Council in pursuing its goals. After the performance, there will be a sumptuous dessert reception with more musical entertainment. We hope you will stay and enjoy and connect with friends. Thank you so much for being here and for your ongoing support of the Council. Enjoy!! Debra A. Weiner & William H. Schrag 37th Annual Gala Co-Chairs

Since its founding, the WJC has served as an invaluable forum for dialogue, cultural celebration, and public service. February 2, 2013
Westchester Jewish Council 701 Westchester Avenue 203E White Plains, NY 10604
Dear Friends:
Please accept my warmest greetings and congratulations as you gather to celebrate Westchester Jewish Council’s 37th Anniversary Gala, “Oh What a Night!”. I am honored to have the opportunity to recognize the exemplary work of WJC and President Ron Burton on this momentous occasion.
Founded in 1975, the Westchester Jewish Council voices the concerns of the Jewish community in Westchester County and serves as a conduit of commonality between the Jewish community and other religious and cultural groups. By utilizing its resources and collaborating with its leadership and its member organizations, the Westchester Jewish Council continues to transform the lives of Westchester residents through the spirit of cooperation and faith. Dear Friends: With great privilege, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Westchester Jewish Council on the occasion of your 37th Anniversary Gala. As Westchester's Jewish community relations organization, Westchester Jewish Council (WJC) plays a critical role in uniting Westchester Jewry, one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, with the State of Israel, fostering communication among Jewish organizations and cultivating and strengthening relations with other ethnic and religious groups, elected officials and the community at large. On behalf of all who will benefit from your initiatives and programs, we express our deepest gratitude. We are pleased this evening to share in honoring an extraordinary individual and partner of WJC: Ron Burton. Through your leadership as WJC’s 11th and current president, you have elevated the Council’s work in the areas of Israel advocacy, Jewish education, social media and government relations. February 2, 2013 Dear Westchester Jewish Council, I am writing to you today to offer my sincere congratulations to Ron Burton, your president, on being honored by you at your 37th Annual Gala for taking the Council to new heights in the areas of advocacy for Israel, with federal, state, and local governmental representatives, as well as with Jewish education and social media.
Ron Burton has been devoted to the celebration of Jewish culture and heritage, as someone who went to a Jewish camp himself and participated in Jewish youth activities. He spreads his love of all things Jewish to all those with whom he comes into contact, of every faith. Ron has held leadership positions in many organizations, serving as President of the Westchester Jewish Center’s Brotherhood, and the Northern Metro March of Dimes, as well as on the board of the American Jewish Committee’s Westchester Chapter. Ron continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester and the JCC of Mid-Westchester. Ron’s love for his family and commitment to the Jewish home he has built is further testament to his character and the qualities you are honoring today. Even in his very little bit of spare time, he is manages to coach little league baseball and synagogue basketball.
I offer Ron Burton all the best as I am sure he will continue to lead your organization above and beyond. Sincerely, Sandra R. Galef Assemblywoman 95th A.D.

Dear Friends:
We congratulate Ron Burton on his honor at the Westchester Jewish Council 37th Anniversary Gala. Ron is a truly inspiring Jewish communal leader who has been an irreplaceable partner for The Jewish Education Project (formerly BJENY-SAJES) in Westchester. Ron’s enthusiasm, care and sincerity have helped us build relationships across the Westchester community.
Working together with Executive Director Elliot Forchheimer, Ron’s dedication and hard work have enabled the Westchester Jewish Council to stand as a central resource for Jewish activities in Westchester County.
Ron’s leadership has contributed to The Jewish Education Project’s ability to spark and spread innovations that expand the reach and increase the impact of Jewish education for children, teens and families. We are especially proud to be launching innovative Jewish education options for teens in Westchester through our exciting Westchester Jewish Teen Learning Initiative.
We join you in saluting Ron on his well deserved honor, and we congratulate the Westchester Jewish Council on all that they have accomplished.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Tananbaum Robert Sherman President Chief Executive Officer
Dear Ron, On behalf of the Board of Directors of Jewish National Fund please accept my personal congratulations on your well-deserved honor at the Westchester Jewish Council’s 37th Anniversary Gala. Your leadership is unmatched in the community and your dedication to Israel and the Jewish people is unparalleled. We feel privileged at JNF to be your partner. February 2, 2013 I am delighted to salute the Westchester Jewish Council on its 37th Anniversary. The WJC continues to fulfill its mission as an outstanding resource for Westchester’s Jewish community, representing over 140 organizations. The WJC has made a wonderful choice in honoring Ron Burton, its 11th president. During his tenure he increased the organization’s Israel advocacy, improved its government relations, and its presence on social media – to mention just a few areas where Ron has had an impact. Ron is indefatigable in his support of Jewish causes and the Jewish community. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Jewish Committee’s Westchester Chapter, as the president of the WJC’s Brotherhood and the Northern Metro March of Dimes. Ron helped to create UJA-Federation’s New Rochelle’s Family Campaign and AIPAC’s Westchester Leadership for Tomorrow initiative. Ron is currently on the board of directors of the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, where his children Benjamin, Madeline and Zachary attend. He is also on the board of the JCC of Mid-Westchester. A devoted family man, Ron makes his home with his wife Jocelyn in New Rochelle. We all gain when individuals like Ron give of their time, talent and energy for the benefit of the community. I am delighted to recognize Ron Burton on the occasion of the WJC’s 37th Anniversary for his tireless efforts and I am happy to count him as a friend. Sincerely, Amy R. Paulin Member of Assembly
