Literacy: epic! App This is a wonderful app full of books. It is suitable for all children and it has varying levels of difficulty which is great. As you can see there are thousands of books to choose from, as you scroll across you can see regular books, videos, audio books, etc. Then, the yellow section I have highlighted is the ‘read to me’ which is a really nice feature, students can choose the book they want to read and it is read aloud to them and the words are highlighted as they go. In class, I might pop a pair of head phones on a student so that they can listen in peace and they really enjoy it! The purple section I have highlighted show the books that have interactive quizzes at the end of the book to test student comprehension for those students who might want a little more from their reading session. Literacy: epic! App

This is a wonderful app full of books. It is suitable for all children and it has varying levels of difficulty which is great.

As you can see there are thousands of books to choose from, as you scroll across you can see regular books, videos, audio books, etc. Then, the yellow section I have highlighted is the

‘read to me’ which is a really nice feature, students can choose the book they want to read and it is read aloud to them and the words are highlighted as they go. In class, I might pop a pair of head phones on a student so that they can listen in peace and they really enjoy it! The purple section I have highlighted show the books that have interactive quizzes at the end of the book to test

student comprehension for those students who might want a little more from their reading session.

Literacy; Phonics Town App

This app might be most suitable for the students where worksheets aren’t really relevant.

It is useful for fine motor skills, spelling, reading and it as you can see has a range of different features and activities

The list of options can be found in the orange button on the home screen with all the squares.

Finger tracing the letters, each sound and word is then read aloud

Oral Language: Chatterpix Kids

Some of you may have seen this app in action on Twitter for St Patrick’s Day. It is a lovely mix of being creative and practicing oral language.

So there are options on the home screen of taking a photo or of choosing one from the gallery. What we have been doing in school is using our own artwork as I have shown in the photo below of (what is meant to be) a crocodile. So

choose take photo, draw/colour in a picture and then take a photo of it using the app as shown below:

Then comes the option to give the drawing a mouth so use your finger to draw a mouth and it will open up

when you record a voice on it

Finally, filters, frames and stickers can be used to decorate and you can see a photo of the final product in action.

Social Interaction: Sock Puppets App

Some students will be used to working away with this app by themselves from school and other will

need some help and encouragement maybe from siblings if possible!!

This encourages students to talk about a particular topic that interests them and also to do some role playing with their peers.

It is quite user friendly so hopefully after a few tries will be up and running!!

So students can choose their characters, back grounds, props as shown

And when they hit the red record button, the puppet with the red arrow moves their mouth in sync with their voice

(voice/assisted technology for communication). To change the character speaking, just touch them and the red arrow will point onto them.

The finished result changes the voices to squeaky voices which helps some students over come their shyness of being recorded. There’s usually a good bit of fun with this one which is great to get them chatting!!

Maths

Maths age 3-5 and Maths age 4-6 have some free features for beginner maths such as sorting and shapes, its very nice to use and full of colour. Below are some examples:

IXL Maths is an app for all abilities and deals with all the strands of the Maths Curriculum. You can chose a class level and topic. Pen and paper might be useful for the older class lessons.

Advanced Maths: Maths Fight

This app is for students who are practicing their mental maths in addition and subtraction. If there is someone to take them on at home, they can have a race with the other person to see who answers the question first. .

You can

choose addition, subtraction or both and also the levels of difficulty. Players go at either end of the screen to take each other on.

Page 7: €¦ · Web viewSo choose take photo, draw/colour in a picture and then take a photo of it using the app as shown below: Then comes the option to give the drawing a mouth so use

Students get the same questions and who ever answers first gets the point. If a student guesses and answers wrong, they lose a point. First to 10 wins.

Sensory Apps

Since the students will not have access to our sensory room there are some lovely sensory apps if they need some down time or sensory regulation. These apps aren’t as complicated as the others I have gone through so I will just show a quick photo of each and you can decide if it is relavant to your child or not. Please feel free to ask for an instructional video.

Tiny Piano; hit the keys to play a range familiar songs

Fluid; use with the stones or else with a photo of the students favourite thing, run hands over screen to give soothing water effect and soft music also

Finger paint; paint and play music at the same time
