NEXT MEETING ISSUE: February/March 2015 Presidents Report What a wonderful Summer we have had, many a day I worked in my studio with drops of perspiration mixing into my paints and on to my painting. Brings a new meaning to Blood, Sweat & Tears. The purchase of electronic equipment with the Grant money from Joondalup is completed and what a difference the Projector, Camera and Screen are making. The close up view of demonstra- tors working on their artwork is so much more visible as they paint, making the demonstration more interesting. Celestine and myself have the pleasure of meeting with Rohan Klemm and Thomas de Mallet Burgess of Joondalup Shire, to discuss a permanent home for WJAS. Many Art Groups down south have this advantage so we shall see what is offered. It would be so nice to be able to promote Art Workshops, Exhibitions, and Paint – INS etc at “Our Place”. I shall keep you informed of the progress. Talking of workshops, WJAS are having one on Sunday, the 21st June at Duncraig Leisure Centre. This will be from 10am – 4pm. The medium is Acrylic; cost to WJAS Members is $50.00pp. Ros Black- burn is the Demonstrator. The Committee would like to schedule more Art Workshops with talented teachers. This is hands on and a try out to see if the response demands future Workshops. Your Committee has now turned its focus onto the May Exhibition and working hard to make it a successful event. Once again the café’ will not be operating over the weekend so we shall have full use of the hall space. Roger, our Safety Officer is hoping to form teams to set up and dismantle the stands and we are looking for a Hostess to organise a finger food group to supply the food for Friday night. All expenses will be reimbursed. If you are able to help with either of these projects please call me. In the meantime we hope to have 200+ Artworks ready to roll. Happy Painting. DEMONSTRATOR FOR FEBRUARY

ANDREW TISHCHLERFor those members who attended the Feb Members Meeting, you would haveenjoyed our guest demonstrator Andrew Tischler who was invited by our president Judy. What a treasure! Andrew was both entertaining and also very generous with all his techniques and tips. So much so that he has offered to send all members a Weekly Workshop via email. If you missed his demonstration you can register for the workshops on his web site. http://www.andrewtischler.comAndrew recommends Langridge Handmade Oils and his choice of colours for his Palette can be obtained from Oxlades. The medium he uses is Liquin Original - Windsor Newton. He was also pleased to inform us that he fre-quently uses cheap brushes. For the demo he used a 691 brush with a long handle. Further into the painting he used wedges, and daggers smaller that 691.Andrew used Belgian linen and started with a base coat of a mixer of colours left over on a palette but otherwise used a mixture of Burnt Sienna and Burt Umber, so the colour can come through. He then commenced to sketch a few lines for his seascape. The painting developed as he enlightened us with his knowledge in an entertaining way. Some useful Tips: Start with the sky when you find it difficult to find the tone of your painting. He used Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Teal and Ultramarine Blue mixed with Titanium White.Leave the lightest tone until last (usually white) to add light. This made a dramatic finish to his painting. The best place to find more of his tips and techniques is on Andrew’s web site. The demonstration was projected up onto a large screen with the club’s new projector and screen. This gave all members and visitors a clear view of the demonstration and no need to dodge heads or bags a seat up front. We have some great artists lined up for the coming year, so be sure to make a note of our meeting dates.Demonstrator Co-ordinator Trish Wheatley

GOOD HOUSE KEEPING FOR ARTISTSResponsible Artists and their ENTRY FORMS to a exhibitionAs a timely reminder I would like to suggest several different ways of keeping track of YOUR artwork that you entered into a exhibition

1 BY HANDCalendar or diary Noting the exhibition, work’s name and price on Delivery day

2 PHOTOCOPY the form. This can be kept in a labelled filing system, folder or attached to the painting (back and or front), so no mix ups occur. This way you can also keep track of what you have called and priced your work, for future refer-ence, plus a note on calendar, fridge or wherever you look everyday

3 DIGITALCamera, Phone, IPAD, ScannerTaking a photo with phone or camera or a IPad of your entry form is so easy. CLICK. This information/ image, JPEG, can be kept on your phone or stored in a file on your desktop com-puter or in a gallery folder, it can also be for-warded on as a shared image or emailed to yourself and printed out if you want a hard copyKeep your information saved in FOLDERS. Name them > ExhibitionsEntered > WJAS > May15 This is known as ‘GOOD HOUSEKEEPING’ get into a good habit, especially if you intend to regu-larly enter exhibitions. All of the methods above are a record of what you entered in the pastPlease, please try one of these methods for our next exhibitionRemember to note the artwork size restrictions, one very large or 3 smaller. Also remember as a member you are

expected to do some duty time

which is also on the entry form

Maria Meneghini, honoured,I am pleased to be able to share some news re one of WJAS much loved and hardworking members Maria Meneghini. Before she joined the then W.A.S in 1989 Maria was a member of Kalgoorlie’s Golden Mile Art Exhibition Group from 1980 to 1989. When she and husband Tony left Kalgoorlie to live in Perth Maria was awarded Life membership by the group. This year the Golden Mile Art group have invited Maria to be feature artist in their May exhibition where she will also be honoured on opening night. She is invited to be their guest in Kalgoorlie for the two weeks of the exhibition and will be exhibiting for sale 12 artworks. Maria is too modest to speak of her past sales and her popularity as a goldfields artist but has on many occasions had all her artworks sold and was always kept busy with commissions. Many of the artworks she will exhibit in May are of well-known buildings and places in Kalgoorlie and Boulder. I am sure we all wish Maria the very best of luck both in the exhibition and for her trip to Kalgoorlie. Ann Dunstan
