the vertical glasshouse goudsepoort office building 2.0 The central office tower has always been a marker for the Goudse Poort. As the sites highest building can be seen as symbol a for one of the Netherlands’ first buissinessparks. Ironically it still is, even during the demise of the area. It is now a marker for the void that is left by former occupants of the whole area, as at the moment the buildng is unused and completely empty. Recent studies have shown that expirimental housing can be a viable option for tipical buissinessparks like this one. Prices can be kept relatively low, because of low property value, therefore it could give the area a positive injection attracting new pioneers to the Goudse Poort. Having people live there doesn’t only change the site’s economic perspective, but also changes live in the area during a 24 hour period, changing the sites ‘nine to five shift’ to a broader, more varied use with life after ‘office hours’. The current structure is a traditional office buidling in many ways, with normal floorlevels and a functional grid of 7.2m. It consists of respectively 7 to 10 levels according to the different height of the three slabs and a central core of 12 lev- els. The slabs have cascading roofs of up to 3 levels. Part of the envelope is a two-floor outdoor parking facility. All usefull elements the buidling consists of are mapped and catagorised according to their function, type and lifespan. Many of them can be usefull in a second life, and can either be re-used in the building itself, or by other actors in the Goudse Poort. Built in 1973, it does nothing to interact with nature’s elements for it’s energy use. All systems for energy and climate control in the building are designed to fend off the natural elements, instead of a system that intergate them in a sustainable way. As part of a plan that focusses on using the Goudse Poort’s present urban ecosystem, the choice to do just the opposite is easily made. 20 100 50 10 7200 7200 7200 3300 3300 3300 3300 3000 300 3000 300 3000 300 3000 300 total surface facade total surface roof 4150m2 total surface outdoor total surface indoor 17500m2 facade units floors constructive grid centrally organised installations cores and vertical circulation core and entrances noodarmatuur opbouw afmeting: 420x200x140mm aantal: 69 wandarmatuur type 2 uplighter afmeting: 280X470X260mm aantal: 42 wandarmatuur type 1 afmeting: 280X280X1800mm aantal: 80 plafondarmatuur type 1 inbouw afmeting: 460x460xXmm aantal: 45 bestrating baksteen afmeting: 200x100x50mm oppervlakte: 2280m² vloertegels marmer bordeauxrood afmeting: 1000x400x30mm oppervlakte: 52m² vloertegels tapijt varierend in kleur afmeting: 500x500mm oppervlakte: 6600m² dakbestrating afmeting: 300x300x45mm oppervlakte: 500m² daklicht afmeting: 2000x2000x350mm aantal: 8 latjesplafond hout, lichtbruin, afmeting: 2000x70x15mm oppervlakte: 656m² systeemplafond afmeting: 50x100x200mm oppervlakte: 12.300m² hekwerk type 2 stalen frame, donkerblauw, met glasvlak afmeting: 6900x300x1200mm aantal: 58 hekwerk type 1 stalen frame, donkerblauw, met glasvlak afmeting: 2300x300x1200mm aantal:18 raamstrook kunststof, driemaal schuifraam afmeting: 7200x1730x100mm aantal: 308 kozijn plint type 1 staal, donkerblauw afmeting: 2200x2700x50mm aantal: 78 kozijn kern type 1 kunststof, donkerblauw afmeting: 1300x2600x90mm aantal: 13 kozijn kern type 2 kunststof, donkerblauw afmeting: 3900x2600x90mm aantal: 10 kozijn met branddeur hout, wit afmeting: 1900x1870x2500mm aantal: 36 deur dubbel hout, wit afmeting: 1800x2500x100mm aantal: 11 binnenkozijn hout, wit afmeting: 600x2500x100mm aantal: 26 deur enkel hout, wit afmeting: 1000x2500x100 aantal: 127 vluchtdeur hout, rood afmeting: 1200x2500x100mm aantal: 14 metalstudwand gipspanelen oppervlakte: +/- 5264m² metalstudwand type 2 gipspanelen oppervlakte: +/- 1658m² liftbediening staal, verschillende kleuren afmeting: 500x500x2800mm aantal: 9 kozijn kunststof, rood / glas afmeting: 2000x3300x200mm aantal: 10 entreedeur kunststof, rood / glas afmeting: 2000x3300x200mm aantal: 4 gevelpaneel plint type 1 beton, wit afmeting: 1100x300x600mm aantal: 78 gevelelement plint type 2 beton, wit afmeting: 2200x300x600mm aantal: 78 kozijn plint type 2 staal, donkerblauw afmeting: 1100x2700x50mm aantal: 78 knikarmscherm afmeting: 6500x79x79mm aantal: 154 trekstangen staal gepoedercoat grijs lengte: 108m IPE 120 staal gepoedercoat grijs lengte: +/- 120m bordes staal afmeting: 1350X2400x200mm aantal: 76 trapleuning afmeting: hoogte 850mm aantal: 76 trapboom afmeting: 2400x1200x1650mm aantal: 76 hekwerk type 1 staal, wit afmeting: 2000x1000x90mm aantal 106 hekwerk type 2 afmeting: 940X1120X80mm aantal: 38 hekwerk type 3 afmeting: 1190X1120x80mm aantal: 16 straler afmeting:435x665x950 aantal: 17 straatverlichting type 2 hoogte: 6470mm, ø120 aantal: 10 straatverlichting type 1 hoogte: 5700mm, ø120 aantal: 16 tegelwand afmeting: 50X100X200mm oppervlakte: +/-650m² lamellen oppervlakte: +/- 3500m² gevelelement type 1 beton, wit afmeting: 1195x300x1650mm aantal: 44 gevelelement type 2 beton, wit afmeting: 2390X300x1650mm aantal: 26 gevelelement type 3 beton, wit afmeting: 1195X300x3300mm aantal: 214 gevelelement type 4 beton, wit afmeting: 2390X300x3300mm aantal: 12 gevelelement type 5 geprofileerd beton, antraciet afmeting: 2400x800x3280mm aantal: 78 gevelelement type 6 geprofileerd beton, antraciet afmeting: 2400x200x3280mm aantal: 52 staalplaat geprofileerd, antraciet afmeting: 3550x70x6600mm aantal: 9 gevelelement type 7 beton, wit, paneel borstwering afmeting: 3600x650x1570mm aantal: 616 gevelelement type 8 beton, wit, paneel borstwering hoek afmeting: 900x900x1570 aantal: 56 plafondarmatuur type 2 inbouw afmeting: 460x460xXmm aantal: 36 plafondarmatuur type 3 inbouw afmeting: 250X250xXmm aantal: 72 TL armatuur type 1 opbouw afmeting: 1228x146x108mm aantal: 294 TL armatuur type 2 opbouw afmeting: 2318X146x108mm aantal: 166 TL armatuur type 2 inbouw afmeting: 1328x245x98mm aantal: 90 radiator lang afmeting: 597x3500x79mm aantal: 10 radiator kort afmeting: 597x1400x79mm aantal: 42 cyclifiable elements building analysis situation Wesley Leeman

The central office tower has always been a marker for the Goudse Poort.
It consists of respectively 7 to 10 levels according to the different height of the three slabs and a central core of 12 lev-els.

Modern techniques in agricultural glasshouses have shown to be so energy- efficient, that modern housing with similar systems have been realised. These dwellings mainly attracted a pioneer-type user that look for expirimental ways of living. Exactly this type of user could make a first effort for transforming the Goudse Poort to a new era of re-use. This project takes the concept of residential glasshouses to its newest version; one of of stacked units organised by the same principles.
The units are fitted in the decomposed building, using it’s skeleton as a frame-work. They are based on the technology that uses the sun’s insolation as it’s main energysource, providing heat and water all year round. To make the building suitable for this tehnique every other conctrete floor is partly removed, resulting in enough sun (and heat) penetration to reach the desired effect. Building elements from glasshouse construction are standarised, lightweight, and therefore relative-ly cheap building frames that fit the 7.2m system of the officebuilding. Because the ‘inner’ facade of the units don’t have to live up to the high isolation standard of normal housing facades, they can also be cheap, made from recycled material, and even materialised to fit the residents wishes. This means people can ‘make’ their own house up to a certian degree, giving maximum freedom to arange tand organise it, thanks to the freedom given by the units’ wals and floors to (re-)place instalations.
The chosen strategy allows 66 dwellings to fit the building, and calculations show they can produce more energy then they use, creating highly a new, highly energy-efficient residential building, plus giving the Goudse Poort the symbol for a second life. Private and colective studios are added on all floors. The outdoor parking also transforms with the buildings new function, and parkinglots make room for a multifunctional collective garden.
