UCONN IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT PLAY: After UConn’s win in Saturday’s AAC semifinals, the Huskies have compiled 43-28 all-time mark in 33 years of conference tournament competition in the Big East Conference and two-plus years in the American Athletic Conference. UConn won the Big East Tournament Championship a record (with Georgetown) seven times --- 1990, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2011. The Huskies have been tourney runner-ups five times --- in 1995, 2000 and 2003 in the Big East and in both 2014 and 2015 in the American. UConn was the only team in Big East history to win both the regular season and tournament titles in inconsecutive seasons (1997-98 and 1998-99). The Huskies have a conference tournament record of 29-10 when seeded better than their opponent, 13-17 when seeded worse and 1-1 with an equal seeds as their tournament opponent (when the Big East had two divisions).
UCONN AS A NO. 5 SEED: This is the first time that UConn has been the No. 5 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship. Amazingly, in 33 years of conference tournament competition in the Big East Conference, UConn was only a No. 5 seed once --- bowing to Villanova, 65-54, in the first round of the 1981 Big East tourney at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., in just the second season of the league. In the NCAA Tournament, UConn has been a No. 5 seed three times and posted a 3-3 record. UConn lost to Syracuse in the first round in the 1979 tourney in Providence; the Huskies went 1-1 in the 2000 tourney, topping Utah State, but losing to Tennessee, both in Birmingham, Ala.; UConn went 2-1 in the 2003 NCAA tourney, defeating BYU and Stanford in the first two rounds in Spokane, Wash., before bowing to Texas in the Sweet 16 in San Antonio.
UCONN IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: UConn has been involved in 12 confer-ence tournament championship games and has a record of 7-5 in those games. The Huskies won a record seven Big East championships: against Syracuse in 1990, against Georgetown in 1996, against Syracuse in 1998, against St. John’s in 1999, against Pittsburgh in 2002, against Pittsburgh in 2004, and against Louisville in 2011. The five championship game losses came in 1995 against Villanova, in 2000 against St. John’s,

in 2003 against Pittsburgh, all in the Big East, and against Louis-ville in the 2014 American Athletic Conference finals and against SMU in the 2015 AAC finals.
THIRD TIME VS. MEMPHIS: Ironically, after topping Cincinnati and Temple in the first two rounds of the AAC Championship -- teams which had each defeated UConn twice during the regular season -- the Huskies now face Memphis for the league title, a team which the Huskies defeated twice this year. UConn leads the all-time series, 5-3, and as conference colleagues, the Huskies have a 5-2 edge. This season, UConn took the first game, 81-78, on Jan. 9 at Gampel Pa-vilion as guard Sterling Gibbs poured in his season-high of 26 points, including five three-pointers. In the second game on Feb. 4 at FedEx-Forum, the Huskies dominated the second half, holding Memphis to 25.0 percent shooting, and winning a convincing 77-57 decision, led by a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) from Daniel Hamilton. In the two games this year, UConn’s Gibbs averaged 16.5 points, while Hamilton averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds and Shonn Miller added 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. For Memphis, Ricky Tar-rant averaged 15.5 points. 5.0 rebounds, Shaq Goodwin averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.
TAKING DOWN NO. 1: UConn fell behind 12-4 to start then went on a 31-7 run to take control of Saturday’s semifinal game against No. 1 seed Temple, the league’s regular-season champ. UConn shot an impressive 55.2 percent in the first half, while holding Temple to 28.1 percent as the Huskies took a 39-28 halftime lead. The Owls cut the lead to six, but UConn withstood the challenge and earned a berth in the AAC title game. Sophomore Daniel Hamilton and grad Shonn Miller shared the scoring lead with 19 points apiece, and Hamilton grabbed 11 rebounds. Freshman Jalen Adams poured in 11 points and handed out 8 assists, and junior Amida Brimah contributed 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. The win upped UConn’s record in the AAC postseason tournament to 7-2.

QUITE A QUARTERFINAL: UConn and Cincinnati staged the longest game in American Athletic Conference history when they went to four overtimes in Friday’s AAC Championship quarterfinals before UConn finally prevailed, 104-97. The biggest shot of the game came from UConn freshman Jalen Adams, whose 65-footer with 0.8 seconds remaining tied the game, 88-88, and forced a fourth overtime. The Huskies outscored Cincinnati, 16-9, in that fourth extra session to capture the hard-fought victory. The game was tied at the end of regulation time, 62-62, and the end of the first overtime, 67-67, after the second overtime, 75-75, and 88-88 after the third overtime. Five UConn players played more than 40 minutes and sophomore Daniel Hamilton and grad Sterling Gibbs played 55 and 54 minutes, respectively. Hamilton was outstanding with a career-high 32 points, hauling down 12 rebounds, and handing out 8 assists. He was one of six Huskies in double figures --- Adams had 22, Gibbs had 14, Rodney Purvis had 14, Shonn Miller had 10 and Amida Brimah had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. It is the third consecutive season in which UConn has eliminated Cincinnati from the AAC Championship.
SUNSHINE STATE: Although UConn is playing for the first time in the Amway Center, the Huskies have had a good amount of succcess when playing in the state of Florida. UConn has a 22-12 overall mark playing in the Sunshine State, including two wins at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg to win the 1999 NCAA Championship. UConn has played in Florida in two other NCAA appearances, bowing to Florida in the 1994 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in Miami, and losing to San Diego State in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament in Tampa.
CONFERENCE PLAY: In three seasons in in the American Athlet-ic Conference, UConn has a 32-22 record (.593) in regular-season league play. In 34 seasons in the Big East Conference, the Huskies had a 325-233 record (.582) in regular-season play.
NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: UConn’s 68-62 victory over Georgetown on Jan. 23 completed the Huskies’ 2015-16 regular-season non-conference schedule with a 10-3 record. The Huskies went 8-0 at home in the non-conference schedule. Under Coach Kevin Ollie, UConn has posted a record of 39-11 (.780) in regular-season non-conference games.
NO. 1 FROM THE LINE: UConn’s 22-of-24 performance from the foul line against Cincinnati on Friday and 12-of-15 against Temple on Saturday have lifted the Huskies over Villanova to the No. 1 spot in the country in free throw percentage. UConn is currently shooting 78.5 percent from the foul line, ahead of No. 2 Villanova, now shooting 77.7 percent. UConn is also on a school-record pace for best team foul shooting percentage for a season. That record is currently held by the 1980-81 Huskies, who shot 78.2 and led the nation. DEFENSIVE PRESSURE: UConn’s field goal percentage defense of 38.2 percent is ranked among the top five in the country. UConn has held 23 opposing teams to a field goal percentage of under 40.0 percent, including 15 of its last 20 games. To find a UConn team that had a better field goal percentage defense, you would have to go back to the 2008-09 Huskies, who held opponents to 37.7 percent for the season. UConn’s scoring defense of 63.2 points per game is ranked among the top 15 in the nation.
COACHING IN THE FAST LANE: UConn’s win over Temple on Saturday was the 95th career coaching victory for fourth-year head coach Kevin Ollie, moving him into sole possession of fifth place on UConn’s all-time coaching wins list. Only Jim Calhoun (625), Hugh Greer (287), Dom Perno (139), and Dee Rowe (120) stand in front of Ollie, who is the second-fastest coach in UConn history to reach 90 wins. Greer (1946-63) won 90 games in only 116 games coached. Ollie’s 90th win came in his 130th game at the helm.
THREE-POINT STREAK: UConn hit seven three-pointers in its last

game against Temple, extending its streak of hitting at least one three-pointer to 242 consecutive games, a streak that dates back more than six years. The last game in which the Huskies failed to make a three-pointer occurred on Nov. 27, 2009, during a 68-59 loss to Duke in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden in New York City. UConn was 0-for-4 from three-point range in that game.
BRIMAH’S BACK: UConn junior Amida Brimah returned to game action on Sunday, Jan. 31, at UCF after missing 11 games while recuperating from surgery to repair the middle finger on his right hand, broken during practice on Dec. 21. Brimah currently has a .664 career field goal percentage, the highest in UConn history. Brimah set the single-season school record of .674 last season and is nearly equaling that this season at .670. The junior center also had three blocked shots against Temple, giving him 57 for the season and 270 for his career, enough for sole possession of third place on UConn’s all-time list. Brimah’s season field goal percentage of .670 would rank third and his blocked shots per game of 2.59 would rank 14th in the country (as of March 11), if he had enough games to qualify.
TRIPLE-DOUBLES: UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton recorded the 11th triple-double in UConn history on Dec. 23 when he scored 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 11 assists in a 99-52 win over Central Connecticut. The 11 triple-doubles have come from 10 different players, with Shabazz Napier accomplishing the feat twice. UCONN INKS ONE OF TOP RECRUITING CLASSES UConn men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie has announced that the program has received signed National Letters of Intent from four student-athletes who will enroll as fulltime students in the fall of 2016. Guard Alterique Gilbert (Lithonia, Ga.), power forwards Mamadou Diarra (Queens, N.Y.) and Juwan Durham (Tampa, Fla.) and small forward Vance Jackson (Altadena, Calif.) make up what is considered by most recruiting services as one of the top recruiting classes in the country. It is the first time UConn has had a recruiting class including four players ranked in the Top 100 since the incoming freshman class of 2006-07. Gilbert, a 5-11 point guard out of Miller Grover High School, is rated among the top 30 players nationally by most recruiting services. An exceptional athlete known for his tremendous speed, quickness, and strength, he averaged 18.5 points, 6.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.3 steals as a junior. He was recently nominated to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game as well as the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic. Jackson, a 6-8 forward with a deadly longrange shot, was named the 2015 Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team Player of the Year after averaging 19.4 points and 7.1 rebounds for St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). As a sophomore, he was team-mates with current UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton on a Bosco team that won the state championship. Jackson, a top 50 player, will play his senior season at Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif). Diarra, a 6-8 power forward who attends Putnam Science Academy (Putnam, Conn.) is explosive around the rim and is an outstanding rebounder at both ends of the court. He averaged 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds last year to help Putnam Science to a 27-8 record. Durham, a 6-9 power forward out of Tampa Preparatory School, was rated among the top 30 players in the country, de-spite having missed the last few weeks of his junior season with a knee injury. Until he was injured in February last year, he was averaging 22.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Sophomore Daniel Hamilton had 19 points and 11 rebounds against Temple on Saturday, his second consecutive double-double in the AAC tourney after his career-high 32 points and 12 rebounds in UConn’s win over Cincinnati on March 11. Hamilton has 10 double-doubles this season and 15 in his career, including a triple-double against CCSU. Junior Kentan Facey had 10 points and 12 rebounds against CCSU, his first double-double of the season and the second of his UConn career. Facey and Hamilton join grad student Shonn Miller as Huskies who have recorded a double-double so far this season. As far as career double-doubles, Miller has 19 (18 during his three years at Cornell), Hamilton has 10, junior Amida Brimah has two, Facey has two and grad student Sterling Gibbs has one (while at Seton Hall). GRAND NIGHT: Junior guard Rodney Purvis hit his first shot against Tulsa on Feb. 13, a three-pointer, to give him 1,000 points during his college career. Purvis scored 292 points during his freshman season of 2012-13 at North Carolina State and has now scored 797 in his two seasons at UConn for a total of 1,089.
ANOTHER 20: UConn’s win over USF on Feb. 25 was the Huskies’ 20th of the season, clinching the fourth consecutive 20-win season under four-year Coach Kevin Ollie. Overall, it is the sixth straight 20-win season for UConn, and the 17th 20-win season in the last 19 years for the Huskies.
AAC HONORS: UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton was named to the All-American Athletic Conference second team and grad student Shonn Miller was named All-Conference Honorable Mention in a vote of the league’s head coaches for postseason awards. During the regular season, several Huskies were hoinored with weekly awards:
AAC Player of the Week:Daniel Hamilton (2): Dec. 28, Feb. 8Rodney Purvis (1): Jan. 4
AAC Rookie of the Week:Jalen Adams (1): Feb. 8AAC Weekly Honor Roll:Sterling Gibbs (3): Jan. 11, Jan. 18, March 7Rodney Purvis (2): Nov. 23, Dec. 21Daniel Hamilton (1): Nov. 30Amida Brimah (1): Nov. 16Shonn Miller (1): Jan. 25
CHARGE ACCOUNT: Grad student Shonn Miller has taken over as the Huskies team leader in drawing offensive fouls. Although the new rules make it more difficult to draw a charge, Miller has drawn 24 this season in 33 games. As for the rest of the Huskies, Amida Brimah and Phil Nolan have each drawn five charges, Omar Calhoun has drawn three, Sam Cassell Jr. has drawn two, while Sterling Gibbs, Jalen Adams and Steve Enoch have drawn one each for a team total of 42.
CONSECUTIVE GAMES: UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton owns UConn’s longest streak of consecutive games played with 68, which is also the team’s longest streak of consecutive starts. Hamilton, and grad students Shonn Miller and Sterling Gibbs have started every game this season for the Huskies.
Kevin OLLIEHead Coach
4th year as HC; 6th year at UConnIn just three seasons as UConn’s
head coach, following two years as an assistsnt under Hall of Fame Coach Jim Calhoun, UConn head coach Kevin Ollie has already experienced a long career’s worth of ups and downs --- including the ultimate high of the college basketball coaching profes-sion, the 2014 NCAA National Cham-pionship.
His teams have never won less than 20 games, while posting two perfect APR scores of 1,000. His career re-cord of 72-33 (.686) already has him tied for sixth place on UConn’s all-time coaching wins list.
The 2014-15 season was full of ups and downs as well, culmination in a 20-15 record and a bid to the national Invi-tation Tourna-ment. Along the way, the Hus-kies had wins over top AAC teams SMU, Tul-sa and Cincin-nati and a thrill ride through the AAC postseason tournament that ended in the cham-pionship game, where they bowed to SMU.
At 43, Ollie is considered one of the bright, rising stars in the college basketball coaching world.
It took Ollie just 70 games to join the elite of the profession --- those who have won an NCAA champion-ship.
In just his second season as UCo-nn’s head basketball coach and only his fourth year in coaching since retir-ing from the NBA, Ollie firmly estab-lished himself in the college game by guiding the Huskies to a 32-8 season in 2013-14 and the NCAA title, defeat-ing Kentucky, 60-54, in the tourney’s championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
On his way to guiding UConn to their its fourth NCAA crown in the history of the program, Ollie marched the Huskies past storied pro-grams Saint Jo-seph’s, Villano-va, Iowa State, Michigan State, and Florida in the tournament before the finale against Ken-tucky.
It would have been a dream season for any col-lege coach, but for a coach of just 70 games, whose team was not even able to compete in the 2013 NCAA Tournament be-cause of aca-demic short-
comings of years long past, it was truly remarkable. The Huskies, who had a 12-6 mark in the new Ameri-can Athletic Conference, won eight of their last nine games, 11 of their last 13, and had a 10-4 record against ranked opponents, including two wins against Florida, the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

bility on Sept. 13, 2012, when he was named the 18th head coach in the his-tory of UConn men’s basketball.
Despite a roster depleted by trans-fers and early NBA entrants, Ollie sur-prised the experts by guiding the Hus-kies to a 20-victory season (20-10), a feat no other UConn coach had ever ac-complished in his first year.
At season’s end, Ollie’s efforts were recognized by Collegeinsider.com, which selected him to receive its Ben Jobe Na-tional Coach of the Year Award, given to the top Division I minority coach.
Less than a dozen games into his first season as head coach, Ollie was award-ed a five-year contract. Following his second season in 2013-14, he spurned interest from NBA teams to sign anoth-er new contract with UConn that runs through May, 2019.
Ollie’s UConn history --- which began in the fall of 1991 when he reported to school as a freshman from Los Angeles, continued through four successful sea-sons, including two as a Husky team captain, and resumed when he returned
to join Calhoun’s coaching staff follow-ing a 13-year NBA career --- has come full circle. He may have only served two seasons as an assistant on Calhoun’s staff, but possessed a wealth of basket-ball knowledge after learning from some of the finest teachers to ever coach the game, including Calhoun, Chuck Daly, Don Nelson, Larry Brown, and George Karl.
Coming out of Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, Ollie played on some of Calhoun’s finest teams during the mid-1990s, as a four-year starting point guard and a two-time captain.
He played in 124 games for the Hus-kies, averaging 6.7 points and 5.0 as-sists. A third team All-Big East pick, his 619 assist total still ranks fourth on UCo-nn’s all-time list. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in Communications.
During his four-year UConn career, the Huskies had a record of 92-33, 51-21 in the Big East Conference and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. During Ollie’s last two seasons, when he served as a team captain, UConn’s
record was 57-10 overall and a dazzling 32-4 in the Big East, capturing two Big East regular-season championships, and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, respectively.
After his UConn career, Ollie fought his way through years in the Continen-tal Basketball Association and the U.S. Basketball League to get his chance in the NBA.
Once there, Ollie would simply not give up his dream, signing a series of 10-day and one-year contracts, dealing with trades and frustrating roster cuts.
Yet Ollie would not be deterred, earning a reputation throughout the league as an outstanding teammate, with strong moral fiber, impeccable character, and a vast knowledge of the game. His perseverance finally paid off with a multi-year NBA contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers. During a 13-year NBA career, Ollie played for 11 different franchises in 12 cities.
Ollie couldn’t have had a more suc-cessful debut season to his coaching career than in 2010-11, as he helped guard Kemba Walker produce one of the most spectacular individual seasons in UConn history in leading the Huskies to the program’s third national champion-ship. He has had the same kind of suc-cess mentoring guards Jeremy Lamb, Shabazz Napier, and, this past season, Ryan Boatright.
Born in Dallas on Dec. 27, 1972, and raised in Los Angeles, Ollie resides in Glastonbury and has two children, son Jalen (born 6/22/96) and daughter Cheyanne (born 2/6/01).
