OVERALL IN GAMPEL: UConn has an overall record of 165-29 (.851) at Gampel Pavilion since the building opened in 1990. The Huskies are 82-7 (.921) against non-league competition, were 76-19 (.800) against Big East opponents and are 7-3 (.700) against American Athletic Conference opponents in Gampel. The seven non-conference losses came against Detriot Mercy in the 2001 NIT, Jackson St. in the 1993 NIT, Florida St. in the 1992-93 season, North Carolina St. in the 1990-91 season, Texas on Nov. 30, 2014, Yale on Dec. 5, 2014, and Arizona State in the 2015 NIT. The 55-54 loss to Texas broke a streak of 44 straight non-conference wins in Gampel. UConn is 40-12 (.769) in Gampel over the last six seasons, plus this year (5-0). As UConn’s head coach, Kevin Ollie is 22-7 (.759) at Gampel Pavilion. Today’s game is the sixth of nine regular-season games in Gampel this season.
CONFERENCE PLAY: In 2-plus seasons in in the American Athletic Confernce, UConn has a 28-17 record (.622) in regular-season league play. In 34 seasons in the Big East Conference, the Huskies had a 325-233 re-cord (.582) in regular-season play.
NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: UConn’s 68-62
victory over Georgetown on Jan. 23 completed the Huskies’ 2015-16 regular-season non-conference schedule with a 10-3 record. The Huskies went 8-0 at home in the non-conference schedule. Under Coach Kevin Ollie, UConn has posted a record of 39-11 (.780) in regular-season non-conference games.
DEFENSIVE PRESSURE: Through 22 games this season, UConn has held 17 opposing teams to a field goal percentage of under 40.0 percent, including the last nine in a row. For the season, UConn has held opponents to 36.8 field goal percentage, tied for second in the country (as of Feb. 1). To find a UConn team that had a better field goal percentage defense, you would have to go back 57 years, to the 1958-59 Huskies, who held opponents to 35.2 percent for the season. UConn is currently holding opponents to a 31.0 field goal percentage from three-point range, its lowest since the 2008-09 Huskies held opponents to 30.4 percent from three-point range. In American Athletic Conference play, UConn is holding opponents to an even lower 34.6 percent overall, which leads the AAC, and 32.0 percent from three-point range.
COACHING IN THE FAST LANE: UConn’s win over Furman on November 21 was the 75th

career coaching victory for fourth-year head coach Kevin Ollie, making him the second-fastest coach in UConn history to reach 75 wins. Legendary coach Hugh Greer (1946-63) won 75 games in only 97 games coached. Ollie’s 75th win came in his 108th game at the helm. Now with 88 wins, he currently ranks sixth on the all-time UConn coaching wins list.
TOP 25: UConn is unranked in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches poll released on Feb. 1. UConn had been ranked among the Top 25 in both polls for the first three weeks of the season, was No. 25 in the AP Top 25 the week of Dec. 7, and was No. 23 in the AP Top 25 and No. 24 in the USA Today Poll the week of Jan. 4. The longest consecutive streak for UConn to be ranked in the Top 25 is 77 straight weeks, a span from November, 1997 through January, 2001. Five of UConn’s 2015-16 opponents appear in the Top 25 or “Others Receiving Votes.” Consecutive Weeks in the AP PollStreak ------------------------------Dates1. 77 weeks--------Nov., 1997-Jan., 20012. 67 weeks ----March, 2003-Jan., 20073. 51 weeks ----Dec., 1993-March, 19964. 36 weeks ------Feb., 2008-Jan., 20105. 28 weeks----- -Nov., 2010-Jan., 2012
THREE-POINT STREAK: UConn hit four three-pointers in its last game against Memphis, extending its streak of hitting at least one three-pointer to 231 consecutive games, a streak that dates back more than six years. The last game in which the Huskies failed to make a three-pointer occurred on Nov. 27, 2009, during a 68-59 loss to Duke in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden in New York City. UConn was 0-for-4 from three-point range in that game.
BRIMAH’S BACK: UConn junior Amida Brimah returned to game action on Sunday, Jan. 31, at UCF after missing 11 games while recuperating from surgery to repair the middle finger on his right hand, broken during practice on Dec. 21. Brimah currently has a .672 career field goal percentage, the highest in UConn history. Brimah set the single-season school record of .674 last season and is shooting at an even-better .733 clip through UConn’s 22 games this season. The junior center also had two blocked shots against UCF, giving him 29 for the season and 242 for his career, fourth on the all-time UConn list. Donyell Marshall (1991-94) is third on the list with 245 blocks.
TRIPLE-DOUBLES: UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton recorded the 11th triple-double in UConn history on Dec. 23 when he scored 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 11 assists in a 99-52 win over Central Connecticut. The 11 triple-doubles have come from 10 different players, with Shabazz Napier accomplishing the feat twice. UConn’s Triple-Doubles:

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Sophomore Daniel Hamilton nearly pulled off a second triple-double of the season when he produced a 16-point, 13-rebound, 8-assist performance at Memphis on Feb. 4. Instead, it was his fifth double-double of the season and the 10th of his career, not including the triple-double against CCSU. Junior Kentan Facey had 10 points and 12 rebounds against CCSU, his first double-double of the season and the second of his UConn career. Facey and Hamilton join grad student Shonn Miller as Huskies who have recorded a double-double so far this season. As far as career double-doubles, Miller has 19 (18 during his three years at Cornell), Hamilton has 10, junior Amida Brimah has two, Facey has two and grad student Sterling Gibbs has one (while at Seton Hall).
LAST TIME OUT: Trailing Memphis 37-36 at halftime, UConn put on a defensive clinic in the second half to win going away, 77-57, over the Tigers at FedExForum on Feb. 4. UConn did not allow Memphis a field goal for the opening 5:43 of the half and only gave the Tigers four baskets the entire second half as it held Memphis to 25.0 percent second-half shooting and a season-low 57 points. The Huskies outscored Memphis, 36-6, in the paint in the second half. Sophomore Daniel Hamilton recorded a near triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists to leads the Huskies, while junior Rodney Puris added 15 points and grad Shonn Miller contributed 14.
DOMINATING DEFENSE: UConn allowed its lowest field goal percentage ever in an AAC game (23.5 percent) and gave up its second-lowest point total in an AAC game (41) as it dominated UCF, 67-41, on Jan. 31 in Orlando.

The Huskies fell behind, 4-2, then tallied 17 consecutive points to take a 19-4 lead and never looked back. By halftime, the UConn margin was 38-20 and it grew to 59-32 in the second half as the Huskies never let up. UConn spread out the scoring and only placed two in double figures -- grad Shonn Miller (11) and freshman Jalen Adams (10). Adams also had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals in perhaps his best all-around performance of the season.
UCONN-CINCY, BUSINESS AS USUAL: As usual, a UConn-Cincinnati game was a defensive struggle that came down to the final possession and this time, Cincinnati prevailed, 58-57, on Jan. 28 at the XL Center in Hartford. The lead changed hands 12 times during the game and it was tied six times. UConn managed to sneak in front, 57-53, with 1:44 to go, but a steal and layup brought the Bearcats within two and a three-point play with 11 seconds left put them ahead. Three UConn shots on the las possession failed to fall. Grad Sterling Gibbs was UConn’s top scorer with 14 points, while junior Rodney Purvis had 12 and grad Shonn Miller added 11 points and 8 rebounds and freshman Jalen Adams also scored 11.
HANDLING THE HOYAS: Before a sellout (15,564) crowd at the XL Center on Jan. 23, UConn overcame some second-half shooting woes to defeat former Big East Conference rival Georgetown, 68-62. After taking a 40-33 halftime lead, the Huskies made only four field goals in the second half, but attacked the basket and hit 20 of 25 free throws and played outstanding defense to stay in the game. Georgetown took a 62-60 lead with 4:32 remaining, but would not score again. Two free throws by senior Phil Nolan gave UConn the lead for good, 63-62, with 2:44 to go and the Huskies wouldn’t give up a point the rest of the way. Junior Rodney Purvis led all scorers with 17 points, while grads Sterling Gibbs and Shonn Miller added 16 and 15 points, respectively and soph Daniel Hamilton contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds.

LONE STAR VICTORY: UConn won its first road game of the season, notching a hard-fought 71-66 triumph at Texas on Dec. 29. The Huskies fell behind, 53-52, with 8:18 remaining, but junior Rodney Purvis led an 11-2 run that put UConn in front for good, 63-55. Clutch foul shots by grad Sterling Gibbs and soph Daniel Hamilton in the final 30 seconds sealed the win. Purvis led four double-figure scorers with 16 points, while grad Shonn Miller and Hamilton had 13 and Gibbs added 12. BIG OVER BUCKEYES: UConn broke out of the gate fast, put together its best first half of the season, and finished strong as it dominated Ohio State, 75-55, on Dec. 12 at Gampel Pavilion. It was the first meeting between the teams in nearly 17 years and UConn never trailed, taking a 17-13 lead to 32-18 to 45-24 at halftime. A second-half shooting slump
by UConn allowed Ohio State within 12 in the second half, but the Huskies regrouped to to hit 12 of their last 13 shots to win going away. Five Huskies hit double figures, led by senior Omar Calhoun (14), who was a perfect 5-for-5, four of them three-pointers. Junior Rodney Purvis added 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while grad Shonn Miller, junior Amida Brimah and freshman Jalen Adams each scored 11. The Huskies shot 60 percent as a team for the first time in three years. The result ran UConn to 2-1 against Big Ten teams this year and Coach Kevin Ollie to 5-1 in games against Big Ten schools.
AAC HONORS: UConn grad student Shonn Miller has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, announced on Jan. 25, for averaging 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in wins over Tulane and Georgetown. UCONN-EAST CAROLINA HISTORY
The series between UConn and East Carolina predates the American Athletic Conference by quite a bit, dating back to the
1966-67 season, when the Huskies, under Coach Fred Shabel, defeated the Pirates in the old UConn Field House. They met again in 1971-72 as the Pirates topped the Huskies on neutral ground in the consolation game of the Oral Roberts Classic in Tulsa, Ok. UConn captured the third meeting, in the championship game
of the 1974 UConn Classic in Storrs, and also the fourth meeting, in the championship game of the 1978 Connecticut Mutual Classic, held in the New Haven Coliseum. The series was not renewed until East Carolina joined UConn in the AAC last season, and the Huskies swept both games of the home-and-home series. The Huskies are 4-0 at home against East Carolina, 1-0 at Gampel Pavilion.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES East Carolina has shown signs of getting back on track after suffering through a six-game losing streak that began with the start of American Athletic Conference play in January. The Pirates, however, have won two of their last three games, at Memphis and home against Temple, and the one loss came against Houston in double overtime. Sophomore guard B.J. Tyson, a unanimous selection to last year’s AAC All-Rookie Team, leads the Pirates in scoring (15.2) and also averages 5.1 rebounds per game. Senior guard Prince Williams (8.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.0 apg) also starts with Tyson in the backcourt. The starting forwards for East Carolina include freshman Kentrell Barkley (9.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg), junior Michel Nzege (5.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg) and senior big man Kanu Aja (3.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg). First reserves for the Piates are junior forward Caleb White (13.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg), who is ECU’s top three-point threat, senior forward Michael Zangari (5.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg), and sophomore guard Lance Tejada (3.6 ppg).
In AAC games this season, the Pirates are scoring 67.2 ppg, but allowing 77.4 and giving up 47.4 percent shooting to opponents, ranking last in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense. However, the Pirates lead the AAC in assists per game (16.0) and rank second in three-pointers made, averaging 7.8 per game. On the road this season, East Carolina has a 1-7 record, the lone victory at Memphis.

UCONN INKS ONE OF TOP RECRUITING CLASSES UConn men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie has announced that the program has received signed National Letters of Intent from four student-athletes who will enroll as fulltime students in the fall of 2016. Guard Alterique Gilbert (Lithonia, Ga.), power forwards Mamadou Diarra (Queens, N.Y.) and Juwan Durham (Tampa, Fla.) and small forward Vance Jackson (Altadena, Calif.) make up what is considered by most recruiting services as one of the top recruiting classes in the country. It is the first time UConn has had a recruiting class including four players ranked in the Top 100 since the incoming freshman class of 2006-07. Gilbert, a 5-11 point guard out of Miller Grover High School, is rated among the top 30 players nationally by most recruiting services. An exceptional athlete known for his tremendous speed, quickness, and strength, he averaged 18.5 points, 6.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.3 steals as a junior. He was recently nominated to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game as well as the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic. Jackson, a 6-8 forward with a deadly longrange shot, was named the 2015 Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team Player of the Year after averaging 19.4 points and 7.1 rebounds for St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). As a sophomore, he was team-mates with current UConn sophomore Daniel Hamilton on a Bosco team that won the state championship. Jackson, a top 50 player, will play his senior season at Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif). Diarra, a 6-8 power forward who attends Putnam Science Academy (Putnam, Conn.) is explosive around the rim and is an outstanding rebounder at both ends of the court. He averaged 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds last year to help Putnam Science to a 27-8 record. Durham, a 6-9 power forward out of Tampa Preparatory School, was rated among the top 30 players in the country, de-spite having missed the last few weeks of his junior season with a knee injury. Until he was injured in February last year, he was averaging 22.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game.

Kevin OLLIEHead Coach
4th year as HC; 6th year at UConnIn just three seasons as UConn’s
head coach, following two years as an assistsnt under Hall of Fame Coach Jim Calhoun, UConn head coach Kevin Ollie has already experienced a long career’s worth of ups and downs --- including the ultimate high of the college basketball coaching profes-sion, the 2014 NCAA National Cham-pionship.
His teams have never won less than 20 games, while posting two perfect APR scores of 1,000. His career re-cord of 72-33 (.686) already has him tied for sixth place on UConn’s all-time coaching wins list.
The 2014-15 season was full of ups and downs as well, culmination in a 20-15 record and a bid to the national Invi-tation Tourna-ment. Along the way, the Hus-kies had wins over top AAC teams SMU, Tul-sa and Cincin-nati and a thrill ride through the AAC postseason tournament that ended in the cham-pionship game, where they bowed to SMU.
At 43, Ollie is considered one of the bright, rising stars in the college basketball coaching world.
It took Ollie just 70 games to join the elite of the profession --- those who have won an NCAA champion-ship.
In just his second season as UCo-
nn’s head basketball coach and only his fourth year in coaching since retir-ing from the NBA, Ollie firmly estab-lished himself in the college game by guiding the Huskies to a 32-8 season in 2013-14 and the NCAA title, defeat-ing Kentucky, 60-54, in the tourney’s championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
On his way to guiding UConn to their its fourth NCAA crown in the
history of the program, Ol-lie marched the Huskies past storied pro-grams Saint Jo-seph’s, Villano-va, Iowa State, Michigan State, and Florida in the tournament before the finale against Ken-tucky.
It would have been a dream season for any col-lege coach, but for a coach of just 70 games, whose team was not even able to com-pete in the 2013 NCAA Tourna-ment because of academic shortcomings of years long past,
it was truly remarkable. The Huskies, who had a 12-6 mark in the new American Athletic Conference, won eight of their last nine games, 11 of their last 13, and had a 10-4 record against ranked opponents, including two wins against Florida, the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Ollie accepted a huge responsibil-ity on Sept. 13, 2012, when he was named the 18th head coach in the

history of UConn men’s basketball. Despite a roster depleted by trans-
fers and early NBA entrants, Ollie sur-prised the experts by guiding the Hus-kies to a 20-victory season (20-10), a feat no other UConn coach had ever ac-complished in his first year.
At season’s end, Ollie’s efforts were recognized by Collegeinsider.com, which selected him to receive its Ben Jobe Na-tional Coach of the Year Award, given to the top Division I minority coach.
Less than a dozen games into his first season as head coach, Ollie was award-ed a five-year contract. Following his second season in 2013-14, he spurned interest from NBA teams to sign anoth-er new contract with UConn that runs through May, 2019.
Ollie’s UConn history --- which began in the fall of 1991 when he reported to school as a freshman from Los Angeles, continued through four successful sea-sons, including two as a Husky team captain, and resumed when he returned to join Calhoun’s coaching staff follow-
ing a 13-year NBA career --- has come full circle. He may have only served two seasons as an assistant on Calhoun’s staff, but possessed a wealth of basket-ball knowledge after learning from some of the finest teachers to ever coach the game, including Calhoun, Chuck Daly, Don Nelson, Larry Brown, and George Karl.
Coming out of Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, Ollie played on some of Calhoun’s finest teams during the mid-1990s, as a four-year starting point guard and a two-time captain.
He played in 124 games for the Hus-kies, averaging 6.7 points and 5.0 as-sists. A third team All-Big East pick, his 619 assist total still ranks fourth on UCo-nn’s all-time list. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in Communications.
During his four-year UConn career, the Huskies had a record of 92-33, 51-21 in the Big East Conference and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. During Ollie’s last two seasons, when he served as a team captain, UConn’s
record was 57-10 overall and a dazzling 32-4 in the Big East, capturing two Big East regular-season championships, and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, respectively.
After his UConn career, Ollie fought his way through years in the Continen-tal Basketball Association and the U.S. Basketball League to get his chance in the NBA.
Once there, Ollie would simply not give up his dream, signing a series of 10-day and one-year contracts, dealing with trades and frustrating roster cuts.
Yet Ollie would not be deterred, earning a reputation throughout the league as an outstanding teammate, with strong moral fiber, impeccable character, and a vast knowledge of the game. His perseverance finally paid off with a multi-year NBA contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers. During a 13-year NBA career, Ollie played for 11 different franchises in 12 cities.
Ollie couldn’t have had a more suc-cessful debut season to his coaching career than in 2010-11, as he helped guard Kemba Walker produce one of the most spectacular individual seasons in UConn history in leading the Huskies to the program’s third national champion-ship. He has had the same kind of suc-cess mentoring guards Jeremy Lamb, Shabazz Napier, and, this past season, Ryan Boatright.
Born in Dallas on Dec. 27, 1972, and raised in Los Angeles, Ollie resides in Glastonbury and has two children, son Jalen (born 6/22/96) and daughter Cheyanne (born 2/6/01).
