UC Berkeley Venture Capital Investment Competition 2009 - 2010 Team Application I. Introduction The VCIC is a unique competition, where teams of five students act as VCs to evaluate real entrepreneurs who are looking for funding. You will hear real pitches, meet the entrepreneurs behind them, evaluate their companies, and get judged on your investment strategy by senior VCs from Silicon Valley. Students learn, entrepreneurs connect with investors and VCs get an early peek at some viable deals. The UC Berkeley VCIC will be held at the Haas School of Business on Friday, February 5, 2010. The winning team will then move on to the regional competition at USC in L.A. on Friday, February 19, 2010. The team also has the potential to compete against top U.S. and international business schools at the international final competition from April 8-10, 2010 at the University of North Carolina. II. Application Process Students must apply in teams of exactly five students. Teams should demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills. It is recommended that your team have diversity both in industry experience (i.e. software-tech, bio-tech, manufacturing, healthcare, social media etc) and in functional experience (i.e. finance, strategy, product management). It is also helpful if the team has prior experience in venture capital or entrepreneurship. Finally, the team should demonstrate its ability to collaborate and work effectively as a group. UC Berkeley Venture Capital Investment Competition 2009 - 2010 Team Application

I. Introduction

The VCIC is a unique competition, where teams of five students act as VCs to evaluate real entrepreneurs who are looking for funding. You will hear real pitches, meet the entrepreneurs behind them, evaluate their companies, and get judged on your investment strategy by senior VCs from Silicon Valley. II. Application Process

SUBMIT ALL OF THE ABOVE APPLICATION MATERIALS VIA EMAIL TO: [email protected] 9:00 AM Monday, November 23, 2009. Subject of email should be “2009-2010 VCIC Application | Team Name”

The organizing committee, in collaboration with the Lester Center, will then select six teams to compete in the UC Berkeley competition. These teams will be notified via email by Friday, December 4, 2009.

III. Eligibility Requirements 1

Key eligibility requirements for teams applying to enter the competition are: The team must be comprised of five members. All team members must be current UC Berkeley graduate students. No team member can be a paid employee of a VC firm from November 12, 2009 until his or her

team’s participation in the VCIC ends. At least one team member must be a paid member of the Haas Entrepreneurs Association at the

time of application submission. If selected to compete in the competition, ALL members of each of the six teams must be paid

members of the Haas Entrepreneurs Association. Each team must appoint a Team Lead, who will serve as the point of contact and voice for the

team.Teams selected to compete in the competition must also:

Sign the NDA and the Code of Conduct, and abide by all VCIC rules. Attend ALL pre-competition workshops in late January 2010. If selected as the winner on Friday, February 5, 2010, participate in the regional competition on

Friday, February 19, 2010 and the international competition April 8-10, 2010 (if team wins first place at the regional competition).

Ensure ALL team members are present at ALL relevant pre-competition and competition events. No Absences are allowed.
