Volgens hom is daar ’n lang geskiedenis
Rudolf Bezuidenhout, be-
beer verwyder.
Jason Peake se hand is beseer.

crossing the N1. There he searched her, de-manding money, which she did not have.”Nimb said he then continued to rape her

After being without Telkom telephonelines and internet for five days aftera pipe burst, the approximately 500
residents of Sonstraal in Durbanville affec-ted were relieved when their services werefinally restored.
Sonstraal resident Daniel Rossouw saidon Thursday night 23 July at 21:35 the Son-strall Neighbourhood Watch WhatsAppgroup was abuzz with residents enquiringabout the loss of water pressure they wereexperiencing..
The following morning the subject of thegroup was changed to folks enquiringabout the loss of their Telkom landline andADSL services, he said.
Ripped up“Shortly after the first few messages we-
re received, Telkom advised via the groupthat a grader, employed by the City of CapeTown to repair the burst water pipe the pre-vious night, had ripped up its cables andcaused extensive damage to about 500 lines.
“They advised that orders to replace thecables had already been placed, but becau-se of the extent of the damage, repairs couldtake five days or more.
“They also advised they would not be re-
pairing the cables, but be replacing frommanhole to manhole ensuring a far betterservice going forward.
On Sunday, Telkom advised that serviceto the first 100 lines had been restored andthat they would continue with the other re-pairs.
“Within five days all the cable joininghad taken place, but because of the poor sta-te that some of the previous cables were in,the tedious job of contacting residents toensure that the correct lines had been con-nected to the correct subscriber had beendone.
SortedBy Thursday 30 July all snags had been
sorted and service was back to normal, Ros-souw said.
Blaine Thom, chairperson of the Son-straal Neighbourhood Watch, expressedhis appreciation to Telkom on behalf of theresidents of Sonstraal for the effort they putin and the service delivered.
“Stable communications play a vital rolein the security of a neighbourhood as manyalarms systems that are triggered use thelandlines to transmit signals to the securitycompanies.

There is no National Women’sDay equivalent for men.Women’s issues, at least in theWest, have been in the spot-light since around 1900, men’shaven’t. Specific men’s yes, butnot men as a whole.
The “patriarchy” was alsoharmful to men. Many peoplearen’t even conditioned to seethis.
Invariably if a woman speaksout about women’s rights, equality and liberation shereceives praise. If a manspeaks out about men’s rights, equality and liberation hereceives contempt. Doublestandards.
“National Women’s Day” wasdue to the protests by manywomen against Apartheid in1956. Some of the women saidthat men didn’t help them. Itwas a Thursday. Many of themen were too busy slavingaway in the mines. But, thatdoesn’t mean much.
No-one is 100% their gender, and has something of theopposite gender within. So,“National Women’s Day” canalso be seen as men, andwomen, acknowledging thewoman, and feminine, within.

I really sympathise with thosepoor business owners who haveto put up with the street peoplesleeping outside their shops(“Bergies ontsier rusplek”, TBDurbanville, 15 July).
A solution to that is makethem as uncomfortable aspossible during the night. If onebuys veggies at certain shops, they have a fine water spraysystem that automaticallyswitches on and off at intervalsto keep the veggies fresh. Whynot uses something like thisoutside the shops? Pipes andsprinklers could be installedhigh under the overhangoutside the shop. These couldswitch on at night for everyhalf hour or so for 30 seconds,or whatever works. The sprayis fine but wetting and notmuch water will be used. It willalso keep the pavements clean. What do you think?

Verlede jaar was ek bietjie indie nood en moes ek my seunse selfoon verpand by ’n winkelin die Parow-sentrum. Ek kondit egter eers oor twee maandeterugkoop.
Ek’s nogal teleurge-steld.

behalwe eties.

Bruta, who shakes her head.“Definitely some tea for me,” she answers. We move on a few centuries into the future
and see milky-eyed Esterdamus writing thefollowing: “With Women’s Day being celebra-ted in South Africa on Sunday it is perhapsapt to ask what the world would be like if so-me of history’s men were women.”
She has no idea what the sentence couldmean or where this “South Africa” is.
Esterdamus continues: “In the red poppyfields of France a woman named Natalia Bon-aparte will reform the lands and wash thefilth from centuries of oily hair. She will bejust and loving inherpersistence andembracethe common people, as long as their hair isnice and clean. She will secretly envy all tallerwomen, but she will come to realise that allof the fairer sex are, in essence, fair.”
Esterdamus puts down her quill and looksat the stove.
When will her husband learn to cook his
own food? Does she have to do everything inthis house? She decides that he can look afterhimself for a night and continues to write.
“Whenmonsters of steel roam the earth, so-meone named Adele Hitler will befriend Jose-phine Stalin. They will laugh at the sillinessof it all and gossip about their stately neigh-bour,Winnie Churchill. Winniewants them torespect those who live in the neighbourhood, but Adele refuses. She will be betrayed by Jo-sephine and end up in a bunker somewheremaking quilts. The land Europa will onceagain be free of all gossip.”
Esterdamus stares into the jug of milk andsees an avalanche of images – she can hardlywrite quick enough.
“There shall be no gate in front of RachelNixon’s house, Tess Bundy will be a sweet-heart and Charlene Manson too. There shallbe no apartheid, no fascism, no communismand none of the other nasty ‘isms’ that dividethe masses. Sandra Hussain will embrace theWest and Octavia bin Laden will never evendreamofdestroying the twogiant cakes in theBig Apple. GeorginaWBushwill never say ‘Wespent a lot of time talking about Africa, as we
should. Africa is a nation that suffers from in-credible disease’.
Kimberley Jong-il will be best friends withtheSouthandValeriePutinwillwin theNobelPeace Prize. One day in the distant futureSandy Blatter will put an end to corruption, just like Jackie Zuma and all her minions. Theworld shall rejoice and celebrate unselfish andwell-groomed leaders. Hat merchants andshoe-makers will also celebrate.”
Esterdamus’ hand aches, but she is compel-led to write one last paragraph.
“One day someone will write a ‘What if’ co-lumn inTygerBurger. Somewill argue that thewriter suffers from wishful thinking. Theywill mostly be men.
“Deep down, however, theywill come to rea-lise that if women did indeed rule the worldevery single war would be replaced with mea-ningful conversations and intimidating hugs. And this is undoubtedly the better alterna-tive.”
Esterdamus puts down her pen and smiles.Whatever all this means, she hopes someonewill see it for what it is.
An ode to those who deserve it most.

Wesley Krotz is without doubt oneof the best ice hockey players inthe country, provenby the fact the
CanadianParry Sound Islanders teamhasacquired his services.
The 19-year-old from Milnerton was al-ready selected to represent South Africaon a senior level when he was 15.
“Between the age of 10 and 13, I used toskate with my cousin at every public ses-sion because we enjoyed ice skating somuch. One holiday in Johannesburg, wewere skating atNorthgate Ice rink and themanager approached us and asked if wewould like to play ice hockey for them.
“On our return to Cape Town, my moth-er made enquiries about ice hockey andwe immediately signed up for the Learn
to Play Academy on Sunday mornings.“I then joined the Penguins Club after
attending the academy and the nextmonth was selected to represent WesternProvince u.14s. That was the beginningand I never looked back,” says Wesley.
His accolades are astonishing. Repre-senting his country in Mexico in 2011 hewas voted the best u.18 player of the tour-nament. He received this honour again inTurkey in 2013, possibly making him theonly national ice hockey player to receivethe best player of the tournament awardas both a junior and senior.
“I havebeen fortunate to play inMexico,Turkey, Bulgaria, Spain and New Zea-land.You learna lot by travellingoverseasand seeing how other countries play. Thesport is also much bigger overseas andplayed professionally.
“That is one of the reasons I am so excit-ed to join the team in Canada. I want tobecome the best player I can possibly be.
“It ismydreamtobecomeaprofessionalplayer and one day become a coach andhelp grow the sport in our country.
“The Canadian season starts on 6 Sep-tember and I will be flying out, God will-ing, on 4 or 5 September to start this excit-ing journey in my hockey career.
Parry Sound Islanders attract scoutsfrom all the pro teams, and this will giveme the opportunity to get to the next level.
I would like to thank Victor Kester, mymentor and supporter in Canada, and ob-viously my mother Kathy who is alwaysthere forme andhelps raise funds in orderfor me to go to Canada,” said Wesley.V To make a donation to help Wesley get to Canada go to: http://www.gofundme.com/x7j3c9h
