The Game Center The Game Center is a tool that contains several games available to play that are directly related to the curriculum being taught and can help students find interest in their content. To access the Game Center , locate its icon in the Main Navigation Bar (Figure 3.1): Figure 3.1 Notice the green glow around the icon. This indicates that there’s something caught in our PLV Trap, which stands for Phrases, Letters, and Vocabulary. This is found in VOCES® Round Up. The Game Center

The Game Center is a tool that contains several games available to play that are directly related to the curriculum being taught and can help students find interest in their content.

To access the Game Center , locate its icon in the Main Navigation Bar (Figure 3.1):

Notice the green glow around the icon. This indicates that there’s something caught in our PLV Trap, which stands for Phrases, Letters, and Vocabulary. This is found in VOCES® Round Up.

a. VOCES® Round Up – Notice this button is glowing green as well. That’s because our PLV Trap is

• From this screen we can select and will be taken to the VOCES® Round Up main page (Figure 3.5):

PLV Trap – This is where PLVs are caught, which causes the green glow. An example of this page is shown in Figure 3.3.

Top Collectors – Shows rankings based on PLV Collection(Figure 3.7). In Teacher View, the teacher’s score is displayed also. In Student View, only other student scores are displayed.

Bag o’ PLVs – When words are caught in the PLV Trap, and are answered correctly, they are added here (Figure 3.8):

Story/Instructions– Find more help with VOCES® Round Up or anything PLV related here. The next three games can:

• Be one player or two player • Have teachers create custom sets of digital flashcards, custom match sets, and custom story prompts • Let the teacher view results for each student (scores, when they played, if they played, etc.)

b. VOCES® Match – A familiar matching game involving vocabulary words from the chapter. From the

Game Center main page, click on the icon to access this game (Figure 3.9):

Figure 3.9 • Instructions – Each game will have its own set of instructions that students can see. • My Results – View student names, scores, etc. • Leaderboards – Shows scores for all students using the title. • Create Matching Sets – Allows teachers to create their own sets for matching. • New Single Player Game – When selected, this button will allow us to set options for this game

(Figure 3.10):

Previous Chapters. As a teacher all sets created previously will be here as well.

Additional Options – Toggle if audio is desired to be used as matching items. How many cards? – Players have the option of 9, 16, or 25 cards to match.

• After selections have been made, the Start Game button will take us to a new game (Figure 3.11):

matching it with its other-language equivalent (located on top). The game ends when all card have been matched to their correct term, and a question appears at

the top of the screen (Figure 3.12):

Once an answer is provided, the correct answer will be displayed, along with any wrong matches made (Figure 3.13):

• New Two Player Game– This button allows us to set options for a two-player game. c. VOCES® Flash Card Challenge – From the main GameCenter page, click on the icon to

access this game (Figure 3.14):

Create My Practice Set. This feature allows students to create their own flashcards (Figure 3.15):

• If we go back to the main menu with Cancel My Set, and select New Single Player Game, we see this screen (Figure 3.16):

• Which set should we use? – Allows the user to select terms from the Current Chapter or All Previous Chapters. Sets created by teachers and students will appear here as well.

• Additional Options– Toggle if audio is desired to be used in the flash cards. • Which game mode? Speed asks students to translate as many flashcards as quickly as possible. Wrong answers will

remove time from the counter, correct answers add time back. Perfectionis similar to Sudden Death – one incorrect answer ends the game.

d. VOCES® Story Shuffle – A writing game. Select the icon to access the game (Figure 3.17):

• This menu contains all of the options found on the menu for the previous games. • New Single Player Game– Takes us to a screen to set up a single player game (Figure 3.18):

Figure 3.18 Students will again choose a set to use and some options (audio, number of prompts) The game will start when Start Game is selected (Figure 3.19):

Here students will use the prompts in the white box up top to create their story. By clicking Next Prompt we continue the game and are given a new prompt to add to the story. Once the prompts run out, we click Finish Writing in the bottom right corner and are taken here (Figure 3.20):

We will name this story Example Story and click Save Title & Submit Story, where we will see a “Story Saved” message upon success.

• My Results – Teachers are able to view results from students and approve or deny stories submitted.

• Story Library – Stories that are approved will be accessible here(Figure 3.21):

Figure 3.21 This is where students can search for stories written by classmates. If they leave the box unchecked, they can see stories written by other students using VOCES®.

All stories are teacher approved.
