Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

4v4 to Four Small Goals: In a 30x35 yd. grid with two small 3 feet cone goals on each of the 35 yard lines, near each corner. Each team defends and attacks two goals. If playing with 4 players, the attacking shape should be a diamond. If attacking with five players, the attacking shape should be a 3-2 or 2-1-2.

Topic: Using Your First Touch to Escape Pressure

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

In and Out: In a 30x30 yard grid, the coach separates the players into 2 groups. A group of players, the Outsiders without soccer balls, spread out around the perimeter of the grid. The Insiders are the group with soccer balls. The Insiders players dribble around

and look for an outside player to pass their soccer ball to.

The Outsiders player now dribbles in and becomes an Inside player while the former Inside player finds a place on the Outside.

• Passing and receiving technique

• Proper 1st touch (preparation touch) o do not stop the ball o prep touch to pass

• Vision to locate outside players

4v4 or 5v5 to End Zones: Two teams try to score by dribbling or passing the ball to a teammate running into the opponent’s end zone (created with discs). The player can score by dribbling into the end zone or receiving by timing his/her run into the end zone. Coach: Stress recognizing opportunities and timing of passes and receiving the ball into space

• Recognize early which direction to go with the ball

• Proper 1st touch (preparation touch) o do not stop the ball o prep touch to pass

• Speed of support and mobility and finding good spaces to receive the ball

• Take a picture of the field and make early decisions

5v5 or 6v6 with GK’s: In a 50x60 yard area with goals, two teams of 5 or 6 players with goalkeepers will try to keep the integrity of their attacking shape by creating good angles and effective angles of support, staying wide and making penetrating runs while in possession of the soccer ball.

Topic: When to Dribble and When to Pass

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

Dribbling Square: In a defined grid, half the players stand outside the perimeter, each without a ball. Players with balls are in the middle of the grid and start by dribbling to outside players. Dribble from one side to the other and

Topic: Defending (Pressure and Cover)

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

Partners with a Ball : Players pass to member of other color and move… to receive return pass after 5-8 yard pass: press sideways on

& send opponent opposite direction of his first touch

after 5-8 yard pass: press sideways on & try to gain possession of ball with block tackle, poke tackle, body or shoulder

4v4-5v5 to 4 Goals: The midfield line is the restraining line (offside line). Each team attempts to score in one of the 2 goals opposite them. Work with one of the teams to help them maintain the flat shape of the defending action.

Topic: Training the Goalkeeper for Shot Stopping

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

Basket Catch/Front Smother • GKs in net with coach tossing underhand

with pace a hard ball into their mid/low section for basket catch. Then downwards towards feet

• GKs in a line, front smother a stationary ball one after the other using proper technique. Then coaches serving low hard ball on ground to GKs.

• Shots from 12-15 yds. out driving low hard shots towards the GK.

Topic: Shooting and Finishing

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

Pass and Move: Split players into groups of 3 or 4 (color- coded). Each group has a ball, inter- passing within their group. All groups are in the same grid playing through each other. (30x40 yard grid)

• Body position and balance. Eye on the ball at moment of contact

• Strike ball with ankle locked and hard bone on top of foot for quick/power or with the inside of the foot for accuracy and placement

• Non-kicking foot directed at target

• Strike the center of the ball and follow through towards target landing on shooting foot

Topic: Defending in Small Groups

6v4: 6 players pass to each other consecutively maintaining possession. 4 defending players apply pressure to dispossess opponents. Version 1:Defender wins possession, finds a teammate who then dribbles ball out of grid Version 2:Defender wins possession, finds a teammate and then group of 4 attack small goals on either side of grid

After 5-8 yard pass; press sideways on & try to gain possession of ball with block tackle, poke tackle, body, or shoulder Close down, slow down, get down, stay down

Topic: Goalkeeping – Training with the Team

Technical Warm up Organization Coaching Pts.

Group Passing and Moving with GK’s: Players will pass and move and the GK will call for the ball, and play it first with:

• Feet ( 2 touches) • Scoop and throw • Catch and throw

Coach needs to work the techniques of catching and distributing the ball properly to the appropriate side/ player on the field
