Introduction

The Symantec Technology Enabled Program (STEP) provides a single point of entry for technology partners looking to integrate solutions across Symantec’s product portfolio and capitalize on the latest IT trends. Through a streamlined framework encompassing security, management, data protection and archiving, and storage and availability solutions, the program makes it easier and more rewarding to engage with Symantec. STEP partners can now tap into new, potentially profitable opportunities by bringing a broader array of interoperable solutions to market faster and more efficiently.

To ensure that you have the most recent version of the Partner Program Guide for the Symantec Technology Enabled Program, please go to http://partnernet.symantec.com/ or contact [email protected].

Participation Levels

STEP offers two levels of membership, Base and Technology Track, with increased benefits and investment at the Technology Track level.

Base Level

All STEP partners begin their engagement with Symantec at the base membership level (“Base Level”). STEP partners participating at this level may request access to generally available Symantec software and accompanying software licenses (“Symantec Software”) for limited internal use, product installation and configuration support, the Symantec Technology Enabled Partner logo, and other fundamental program benefits. This level of membership is a prerequisite for all STEP activities.

Technology Track Level

Technology Tracks provide a deeper level of engagement for STEP partners interested in integrating their products with Symantec solutions and gaining access to testing services. Additional benefits may vary by Technology Track, and may include access to Software Developer Kits (SDKs), engineering support, interoperability testing tools, inclusion on the corresponding Symantec Compatibility List, and use of the Symantec Compatible Technology logo or Symantec Certified Technology logo (as applicable), subject to the terms and conditions of the Program Agreement.

Scan Engine Technology Track

Scan Engine is a TCP/IP server and programming interface that incorporates scanning technologies into proprietary applications. It integrates proprietary and patented URL filtering scanners and industry-leading antivirus technologies for fast, scalable, and reliable content scanning services to protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware. Technology Track participants may integrate their applications or network-infrastructure devices via the ICAP protocol, or the provided client-side API.

Data Protection and Archiving

Backup Exec OpenStorage API Technology Track

With the release of Symantec Backup Exec 2010, Technology Track participants may now integrate their disk-based storage platforms with Backup Exec (BE) using Symantec’s OpenStorage API. Previously only available with Symantec NetBackup, Technology Track participants can leverage the power of OpenStorage (OST) to provide customers with better performance and utilization of their storage assets. Using OST-enabled devices BE administrators can better leverage the features inherent in the storage devices such as replication and data deduplication. The Symantec Backup Exec Hardware Compatibility List sets forth the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

Enterprise Vault Storage Array Technology Track

The Enterprise Vault Storage Array Technology Track facilitates the testing of storage devices (WORM and non-WORM) for use with Symantec Enterprise Vault. Technology Track participants are provided with a self-testing kit as well as support from the Enterprise Vault certification team as further described in the Technology Track Schedule. The Symantec Enterprise Vault Compatibility Charts set forth the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

Enterprise Vault API Technology Track

Technology Track participants are provided with access to the Enterprise Vault API through the Enterprise Vault SDK. The APIs allow Technology Track participants to integrate their software with Enterprise Vault in many ways including (1) the ability to add new content to the archive, (2) filtering and classifying content as it enters the archive and (3) searching content within the archive. Technology Track participants may also be provided with engineering support to assist with the product integration effort as further described in the Technology Track Schedule. The Symantec Enterprise Vault Compatibility Charts set forth the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

NetBackup OpenStorage API Technology Track

Technology Track participants are provided with access to Symantec’s OpenStorage (OST) API to assist them in integrating their disk-based storage platforms with Symantec NetBackup, providing customers with better management, performance and utilization of their storage assets. Using OST-enabled devices, NetBackup administrators can better leverage the features inherent in the storage devices such as replication and data deduplication. The Symantec NetBackup Hardware Compatibility List includes the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

NetBackup XBSA API Technology Track

Technology Track participants are provided with access to NetBackup XBSA API which allows the Technology Track participant’s application to create, query, retrieve, and delete data objects via NetBackup. Technology Track participants are also provided with engineering support to streamline the product integration effort as further described in the Technology Track Schedule. The Symantec NetBackup Database Agent Compatibility List includes the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

NetBackup Device Testing

The following Technology Tracks provide testing of the Technology Track participant’s device for use with NetBackup:

NetBackup – NAS/NDMP Technology Track

NetBackup – Virtual Tape Library Technology Track

NetBackup – Tape Drive Technology Track

NetBackup – Tape Library Technology Track

Technology Track participants are required to ship their devices along with pre-qualification testing results and/or SCSI specifications to Symantec’s Hardware Compatibility Lab. Symantec performs interoperability testing. The Symantec NetBackup Master Compatibility List includes the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

Storage and Availability

Storage Foundation Technology Track:

Technology Track participants who develop primary storage devices can request testing of such devices for use with Symantec Storage Foundation. Certification via this track means that Storage Foundation’s Dynamic Multi-Pathing (DMP) technology can successfully configure itself to the connected storage and provides visibility into vendor specific attributes for that storage, thereby maximizing availability and performance. The Symantec Storage Foundation Hardware Compatibility List includes the Compatible and Certified solutions on this Technology Track.

FileStore Technology Track

Technology Track participants who develop primary storage devices can request testing of such devices for use with Symantec FileStore. Similar to the Symantec Storage Foundation Technology Track described above, this Track also leverages Symantec’s Dynamic Multi-Pathing (DMP) technology. The Symantec FileStore Hardware Compatibility List includes the Compatible and Certified devices on this Technology Track.

Cluster Server Technology Track

Integrating a Technology Track participant’s application with Veritas Cluster Server can provide high availability failover through the use of an application-specific agent. The agent enables Veritas Cluster Server to monitor an application and restart it automatically should any fault occur. Symantec provides tools and engineering support to assist Technology Track participants in developing and testing their agent with Veritas Cluster Server as further described in the Technology Track Addendum and Schedule. The Veritas Cluster Server Agent Support Matrix includes the Compatible and Certified devices on this Technology Track.
