On this day the Chinese Buddhist community in Malaysia believe that the "Gates of Hell" are open and that the dead return to visit their living relatives. The Chinese feel that they have to satisfy the dead by offering food and paper money to the imprisoned and hungry ghosts in order to get good fortune and good luck.
