A New Year's resolution is something that goes
in one year and out the other.
January is named after the Roman God Janus, who is
always shown as having two heads. He looks back to
the last year and forward to the new one. In looking
back, I went a great deal farther than just last year. I looked back
100 years. 1914 played host to many historical events like... the start
of World War One; the first successful blood transfusion is per-
formed; the Panama Canal opens; Babe Ruth plays his first major
baseball game; the first electric traffic light is installed In Cleveland,
Ohio; the average cost of a house was a little over $6,000.00; the
cost of a car was about $550.00 and a ticket to the movies was 5
cents. My how things have changed!
Looking forward... what will 2014 bring? I
can't answer this question, we will just have to
live into it! This will be the YEAR OF THE
HORSE on the Chinese calendar which runs
from January 31, 2014 to February 18, 2015.
Historically, the Horse is the symbol of power,
grace, beauty, nobility, strength and freedom.
Sounds like the Newcomers' Club to me.
This year, while making your New Year's Eve resolutions, I would
ask that you make an extra one on behalf of the Newcomers' Club.
Please resolve to partake of the goods or services of at least one of
our advertisers. Business Partners, as I like to call them, are one of
the "unsung heroes" of this organization. And when you visit them,
please let them know that you appreciate their support of the New-
comers' Club. Our Business Partners play a huge roll in the eco-
nomics of the cCub and without them our dues could not remain as
low as they are.

Edison Stanford Hearing Center Invites you to test drive remarkable new digital hearing instruments. This offer is free of charge and you are under no obli-gation. These revolutionary digital instruments use the latest technology to comfortably and almost invisibly help you hear more clearly. This new technology solves the “stopped up ears” and “head in a barrel” sensation some people experience.
Special testing will be done to deter-mine the increased benefits of this technology. Benefits of hearing aids vary by type and degree of hearing loss, noise, environment, accuracy of hearing test, and proper fit. This is a wonderful opportunity to determine if hearing help is available for your hearing loss while you evaluate your performance with this technology.
If you wish to participate you will be required to have your hearing tested in our office free of charge to determine candida-cy. Qualified individuals will then be placed on a two week test drive period. At the end of this period, you may pur-chase the instruments, if you desire, at a reduced charge. Otherwise, there is no charge whatsoever for participating in this promotion.
Recommended by Hank & Marilyn Merrill
Call now if you wish to be included in
this test drive promotion. Test drive
dates are available until December 30.
