President Paul Pirok called his first regular meeting to order to a rousing ovation. Richard Stan-ford gave the invocation. Karl von Bieberstein led the Pledge of Allegiance and "The Star Spang-

led Banner,” and to make our speaker “feel at home,” a chorus of “Anchors Away.” Richard Stanford assisted in introducing our visitors and guests. Herb Ziev introduced our Market-place Advertisers of the Week, Vista Bank. PP

all the coverage by Park Cities People and Tania Boughton for helping gain additional donations. He then turned the program over to

Phillip Bankhead thanked ev-eryone who participated in the 4th of July Parade, especially his co-chairs, Sarah Oliai, Alan Winn, and Tim Keenan. He also thank-ed Sewell Infiniti for the use of the cars for all the dignitaries, Bank of America who volunteer-ed 26 or 27 additional walking marshals, and Park Cities People for their advertising the Par-ade and their written history. The Parade high-lighted three collaborative partners, the North Texas Food Bank, Agape Clinic and the Salva-tion Army. He thanked Mark Neace and Ian Mudge for their help with advertising and mar-keting, and for streaming the Parade live. He thanked Richard Stanford for organizing the Grand Marshal Luncheon, and this year's Grand Marshal, Karl Kuby as a great represen-tative of this year's theme, “Let Freedom Ring,” and for his patriotism. He also thanked High-land Park and University Park. The Parade raised about $60,000 for the North Texas Food Bank through direct donations and marching grants, with the primary donors being the RCPC Foundation, U.S. Trust, and the Hal and Diana Brierly Foundation. President Paul thanked PP Phillip for his leadership and co-ordination in making the Parade bigger and better. Presi-dent Paul also thanked William Taylor for

Cub Amos.Before introducing our speak-

er, Cub recognized Bill Schooling who was visiting today; he is re-sponsible for bringing the Sea Ca-dets to carry the flags in the Par-

ade every year. Cub then intro-duced our speaker today, Cap-tain Marc Liebman, USN (Ret.) who spoke on “North Korea: The Threat, The Truth and out Op-tions.” He started by recogniz-

ing all the veterans in the audience and wel-coming them home, because Vietnam vets were not treated very well. He said that North Korea is a terrible place to live; it is the most repressed economy in the world. North Korea has four major exports, iron ore, small arms to Russia and China, counterfeit medicines sold to the third world, and illegal drugs as well as nuclear technology. The war between North Korea and South Korea has never officially ended. Kim Jung Un is far from being crazy; he is more like a spoiled brat. He throws tem-per tantrums to get attention. When he talks he talks to five audiences. To some it is “I am strong; don't mess with me;” but to China it is “I am strong; I can make trouble for you.” The key is self-preservation. U.S. presidents usu-ally respond by giving him money, but the ag-reements are never kept. However, President Trump has reacted differently; he has made it China's problem. China's economy is delicate and they need exports, so by using tariffs and threatening to size assets, China has become more cooperative. President Trump is very firm and demands transparency.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say that what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.

~ Russell BakerDreams, goals, ambitions - these are the stuff man uses for fuel.

~ L. Ron HubbardHere's what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey. ~ Kurt VonnegutWhat a country calls its vital economic interests are not the things which enable its citizens to live, but the things which enable it to make war. Petrol is much more likely than wheat to be a cause of international conflict.

~ Simone WeilOil prices have fallen lately. We include this news for the benefit of gas stations, which otherwise wouldn't learn of it for six months.
