Major McFarland had the honor of attending The Salvation Army College for Officers in London, England in 2010, an experience that widened his under- standing of the international Salvation Army, both through the intensive learning environment and relationships built that cross cultural and international borders. Since 2002, the McFarlands have led four Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers located in Virginia Beach, Suburban Maryland/Washington, DC, Tampa and now Dallas, Texas. Both Major and Mrs. McFarland are passionate about their service among men who struggle with addiction. Under their guidance, these four centers have assisted over 7,000 men in their journey toward sobriety and holistic healing of the body, mind and spirit. Major Paul McFarland is particularly astute at developing and extending the Family Stores. During the last eight years, those Salvation Army Family Stores under his direction have led the nation in growth. When not pursuing his passion for serving men struggling with addiction, Major McFarland enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, Breanne, Kathryn and Chloe. PP Fred Brown introduced our speaker today, Pierce Allman who was a young reporter in 1963 who witnessed the assassination of President John Kennedy. He spoke on his personal memories of that day, He began by asking
whether we remembered where we were at 12:30 on November 23, 1963. He said that he had not planned to go to watch the motorcade, but President and Mrs. Kennedy had received a tumultuous reception in Fort Worth. He had watched their landing at Love Field and seen
siastic. President Kennedy was the first TV president, and he knew how to work the press. A lot of people had urged the President not to go; Lyndon Johnson had been booʼed in Dal-las. Also, Edwin Walker, with the John Birch Society, had moved to Dallas. He said that he decided at the last minute to go to see the motorcade. He said that he heard the shots come from above, and that it took about thirty seconds from the shots to when the limousine sped up. Mrs. Kennedy retrieved a piece of the Presidentʼs skull and held onto it until she gave it to the doctors. He said he knew he had to get to a phone, and ran across the street to the School Book Depository, where he identified himself as the press. He said he really didnʼt know what to report. He was the only one on the air at the time. The FBI took control of the building and questioned him. When he finally got back to the station, press from all over the world were contacting them. Two weeks later the Secret Service asked him to recreate his actions of that day. It was then that he realized that he had run into Lee Har-vey Oswald as he was leaving the building; he remembered that Oswald seemed calm, not in a hurry. He said that the Zapruder film did not get all three shots, but there were three. Such an important event created numerous con-spiracy theories, and then the shooting of Os-wald by Jack Ruby fueled them further. How-ever, even as unlikely as it was for a loser like Oswald to be able to kill the President, he be-lieves that it was just one man and one gun.

THOUGHTS ON . . .
Being reproached for giving to an unworthy person, Aristotle said, "I did not give it to the man, but to humanity." ~ JohnsonKindness in words creates confi-dence. Kindness in thinking cre-ates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love. ~ Lao-TzuGenerosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need. ~ Kahlil GibranI have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver. ~ Maya AngelouOne must be poor to know the luxury of giving. ~ George EliotIt's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked it.
"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especial-ly the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."
Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, "What
HE PROFITS MOST WHO LAUGHS BEST
do you mean?""Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it
and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!"
