By offering small loans to entrepreneurs, particularly women, in impoverished regions, Rotarians promote eco-nomic and community development.

The Rotary Club of Alexandria Sporting, Egypt, rose to the challenge by focusing on microcredit loans, literacy classes, and a sewing workshop to meet the needs of low-income community members, helping women in particular to start businesses and learn useful work skills.

We gave loans to deprived women supporting large families," says past club president Heba Kabel. Club members made loans of about US$85 to twenty entrepre-neurs to launch small food or cleaning businesses. The loans were paid back in installments over the course of a

year, and the money was then loaned out again, turning the club's initial investment of about $1,700 into a sustain-able microcredit program.

Rotarians will help improve the delivery of vital health care in West Africa through a new strategic partnership be-tween The RI Foundation and the global charity Mercy Ships

Through the partnership, the Foundation will offer pack-aged global grants for Rotary clubs and districts to assem-ble training teams of medical professionals. These teams will perform or assist in life-changing surgeries.

practice of recognizing different tables. This time he pointed out what he called “the eclectic table,” consisting of Dax Seale, John Murphy, Karen Farris, Bill Clark and Sam Mil-ler. Karen was recog-nized as the first female member of the RCPC.

Jodie Ray then led the introduction of guests, followed by Dax Seale's recognition of our Hub and Web adver-tisers of the week.

Fred Brown remin-ded members of the November 11 Zone Meeting in Rockwall and jokingly said that he hoped Jim Mills's medication might help him to level down. Howard Fitch presented Steve Brown with his blue

now time for the program as Program Chair of the Day Jon Petersen introduced Robert Williams, DDS. Dr. Williams is a forensic odon-tologist. He immediately explained just what that is,

which is a dentist who is able to identify deceased people by their dental records. He explain-ed that the State of Texas requires a positive ID of any deceased person, and sometimes there is no oth-er way to identify a person except for their dental records. Many times a person's neighbors don't really know the deceas-ed's real name, date of birth or relatives. He also explained that DNA cannot match a victim if you don't know who he or she is, their blood relatives, or if there is a DNA sample in the database. If they did not commit a crime, most likely there is no DNA available. His program was enhan-ced by some very “interesting” photo-graphs of some crime victims, with several that showed bite marks on the body. He went on to explain that he often has to match bite marks to the perpetrator's teeth in criminal prosecutions. He also explained that much of what we see on television shows like CSI is simply not realistic. Most body identification is not as neat, nor as easy, as it appears on most crime shows. The meeting was wrapped up with Mary Bishop leading the Four-Way Test and Jim Mills adjourning.

Thank you to Kirby Warnock for these meeting notes!

THOUGHTS ON . . .AutobiographyAutobiography is an unrivaled vehicle for telling the truth about other people.

~ Philip GuedallaThus, in a real sense, I am con-stantly writing autobiography, but I have to turn it into fiction in order to give it credibility.

~ Katherine PatersonThe course of life is unpredicta-ble, no one can write his auto-biography in advance.

~ Rabbi Abraham HeschelAn autobiography is only to be trusted when it reveals some-thing disgraceful. A man who gives a good account of himself is probably lying, since any life when viewed from the inside is simply a series of defeats.

~ George Orwell
