Mick Vincent 01858 881194 [email protected]Lay Reader Mr Roy Oldham 0116 2403900 Lay Reader Mr John Raven 0116 2707591 Lay Reader Mrs Carol Higson 0116 2478209 APRIL 2016 Happy Birthday, Your Majesty Over the next few months our nation is going to see activities celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday as she achieves this milestone, with beacons lit in April around the date of her actual birthday, and community events planned. Her Majesty has normally celebrated her official birthday on a date in June with the Trooping of the Col- our and family gatherings, and over the weekend of 10th – 12th June the Church of England is encouraging us to organise events to mark this event, or at other dates if this is more convenient. Here in the Hexagon Benefice we shall hold some themed services, maybe ring some church bells, and you will see elsewhere in this newsletter that Husbands Bosworth are planning a Wedding Festival in April also intended to mark this event. Our plans are a work in progress, so further details in due course. I have never been much of a flag waver for royalist or any other cause, but over the years I have come to respect and admire our Queen for the role she plays in our nation and the way she serves her people. As a tribute to Her Majesty the Bible Society, along with HOPE and the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity have published a book about her entitled ‘The Servant Queen and the King she serves’ (available from the Bible Society). This book re- cords some of the events of her life, points out that even as she approaches the age of 90 she still works a 40 hour week keeping up to date with matters of state even during her holiday periods; tells us that while she employs around 1200 people she still feeds her own dogs; but a recurrent theme of this book is the way she has quietly lived out and expressed her faith in God. It quotes from a number of her Christmas broadcasts where she often refers to biblical themes, speaks of her trust in God, the strength she takes from her faith, and the way she values other people’s prayers. Right at the start of her reign she spoke of devoting herself to the nation and what she called ‘our great im- perial family to which we all belong’ but only being able to have strength to keep her resolve to do this with the help and support of us the people and with the help of God. She has taken seriously that part of the Coronation Service which was not on public view, when the Archbishop anointed her with holy oil to show she was being set apart to serve and love her people in all her actions, with all her heart and with all her mind. In many ways she leads by example. Her faith and trust in Christ, and regular church attendance, has not distanced her from people of other faiths, but enabled her to embrace them, according them respect and dignity as she does those who share her own faith, listening to their stories and taking an interest in them. She believes the established church has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country. She is also someone who holds strong family values, even when faced with difficult times and in the face of media attention. She is a woman working in a male dominated society – so many of our nation’s politicians and the world leaders are men and she has held her own among them all – during her reign the opportunities for women to be equal with men has grown enormously, it would be impossible to measure the extent to which she has influenced this. And internationally she is a much loved figure, known and respected throughout the world. So thank you, Ma’am, for your faithful love and service to us all over so many years, I hope you have a very happy birthday, and enjoy the blessings of good health and prosperity for many years to come. Long may you reign. Liz

Confirmation Preparation In April, Confirmation preparation group will begin. If anyone is interested in confirming the promises made on their
behalf when they were baptised as children, or in exploring the Christian faith for themselves for the first time, then do
come along. Confirmation can take place from the age of 12 upwards (the oldest person I have seen confirmed was 93 –
you are never too old!) Ring Liz to register your interest in the group on 01858 880351.
Our local schools
Please hold both of our schools at Arnesby and Husbands Bosworth in your thoughts and prayers as the staff and gover-
nors work out how to proceed following the government’s statement that all schools will have to become academies and
part of a multi academy trust by 2020. There will be important decisions to be made which will affect the futures of these
schools, and whatever decisions are made it will mean an increased workload for staff and governors.
Lent Groups
Thanks to all those who participated in our lent meetings this year, special thanks to those who invited us to come and join
with you at other churches and for the welcome you showed. It has been good to share in fellowship at this important time
in the church year. Every blessing to you and your congregations during this Easter Season. The peace of the Lord be
always with you.
Thank you
At this time of the year when we hold our annual church meetings in each parish it is appropriate to thank once again all
who work so hard to keep our churches going, those who participate in the day to day running of things, those who help
out on a rota basis with things like flower arranging and grass cutting, those who serve on our PCCs, readers, sidemen's
and cleaners rotas, those who assist at communion and those who lead services, the organists and singers, those who ring
the bells, those who contribute to this magazine, those who pray and who worship and who carry out acts of kindness in
our communities, those who go into our schools or help with Messy Church, those who fund raise and those who support
these efforts, those who provide refreshments and act as welcome at church. It is what you all do that makes church what
it is, so thank you for being the church. The danger of lists is that you miss someone out – so please don’t be offended if I
haven’t said what you do - accept my grateful thanks and know that God sees what you do. Let’s keep up
the good work and may God bless you this Easter Season. Liz

"The Hexagon Men's Group is hoping to make new start in April after illness and
winter disrupted its initial beginnings. The first meeting is on Wednesday 13th April at
7.30pm at 11 Elmcroft Road, North Kilworth.
This is an open invitation for all men in the parishes of the Hexagon to come along It is a group with an open agenda and an opportunity for Christian men to share and to support one another.
At this first meeting we will try to decide the content of future meetings, so come along with some ideas as
to what you think the Group should be about.
Should the time together include discussion about our faith?
Should we invite speakers on certain Christian topics?
Should we have worship together?
Should we have some Bible Study?
Should we have social time together - a summer barbecue, for example?
What are your thoughts?
Come along and tell us."

CUSTOMS AND EXCISE HARWICH ESSEX
Five men in an Audi Quattro arrived at the ferry checkpoint in Harwich, Essex.
Tracey, in her brand new uniform, stops them and tells them:
"I can't let you on the ferry. It is illegal to have 5 people in a Quattro. Quattro means four..One of
you will have to get out and stay behind."
"Quattro is just the name of the car," the driver replies disbelievingly.
"Look at the papers: this car is designed to carry five persons."
"You cannot pull that one on me. This is Tracey you're talking to here," she replies with a smile.
"Quattro means four. You have five people in your car and you are therefore breaking the law.
So I can't let you onto the ferry. It's more than my job's worth to let you all on."
The driver is now very cross and replies angrily,
"I've had enough of you. Call your supervisor over. I want to speak to someone with more intelli-
gence!"
"Sorry," responds Tracey, "but Sharon is busy with those two blokes in the Fiat Uno."
